Toot's Adrian Sherwood/Dub Syndicate Chronicles!

Caught Adrian Sherwood lastnight with the legendary On-U Sound band Dub Syndicate @ Voodoo Rooms here in Edinburgh. The gig was superb and Adrian & Dub Syndicate were on FIRE!!!

Anyway here’s some photos for you all…

On my way to the gig I passed the castle…

I then passed my favourite building in Edinburgh…The Scott Monument. Sir Walter Scott wrote Ivanhoe among other things. You can go to the top of this cool building…

Got to the Voodoo Rooms…

The Voodoo Rooms is such a nice venue…very plush indeed. Here is the bar…

Here is Dub Syndicate getting underway in the main room area…

Check out the guitarist’s dreads! They’re right down to his feet basically. He’s probably been growing them for longer than I’ve been alive…and that’s a long bloody time!

Adrian Sherwood gettin dubwise wit it! The guy really is a don…a true master…and even better he’s just such a nice man…a true gentleman

Adrian & Toot!

A weird framed picture hanging in Voodoo Rooms…

Sadly the gig came to an end…BUT…the night was young and It’s festival time so the clubs don’t close until 5am…so Toot went to the Bongo Club…

Then Toot went to Cabaret Voltaire…

Then lastly Toot went to a really crappy Heavy Metal bar…It was Toot’s lucky day though as It was Heavy Metal Karaoke night and I got to watch many a metalhead sing his and her little heart out…

And that ended Toot’s chronicles for the night. Toot now has a raging hangover to deal with today so is doing some major sofa surfing with cups of tea and co-codamol!

Cool, don’t know which is the cooler t-shirt your Lard one or karaoke tubby’s modest t-shirt. Though the latter only suits guys like that.

And those are long feckin dreads.

Nice! Your photo chronicles are the highlight of the board and they’re even better when they include shots of the legendary Mr. Sherwood! How’d the band sound?

How’d the band sound?

They sounded amazing. Heavy heavy dub overload with massive effects, echo and reverb flying out of nowhere!

My next chronicles will be “Toot’s Jesu & Messenger Sound System Chronicles” on 12th September. I’m chuffed as the monthly Messenger Sound System club night falls on the 12th of September…which means I get to see Jesu first then head on down to the Bongo Club for the immense Messenger Sound System.

Messenger is Edinburgh’s Dub Reggae night…it’s been running for over 20yrs and is amazing. It features a MASSIVE sound system and basically it’s a classic Jamaican party…the dude plays 7"s, 10"s & 12"s. He plays the a-side with the vocal then flips it and plays the version and goes to town on some dub madness. I shall give Broadrick a flyer and try get him down there as it’s just around the corner from where he’s playing and also the man is a big Dub Reggae fan.

I’d love to hear some thick and heavy reggae dub live, I’ve heard some local indie hipster guys toy around with reggae dub and that actually sounded better than it should have but I’m guessing it’s miles away from the real deal.

What town do you live in mate?

Yeah his shirt is pretty hard to beat. His vocals on the other hand…weren’t.

I think that shirt was born on the daily show with jon stewart cause that’s where the first time I’d seen it was and that was years ago.

What’s funnier to me is the fact that his gut is closer to that arrow than his cock! so it looks like his gut is the legend.

Did anyone else notice the funny ass looking wall flowers in that pic? look at the guy on the singers left in the back, big pouty black lips and drawn on magic marker eye triangles… or how about ther guy behind the pole which makes it look like his face is just floating there. lol great pic toot!

the Sir Walter Scott monuement looks like something out of an H.R. Giger painting.

Nice LARD shirt Toot! I have the same one!

Yeah that place was packed full of ultra cool looking folk. Absolute pleasure to visit it and listen to some amazing renditions of amazing Emo anthems.

Yeah it’s pretty awesome. Edinburgh’s got quite a few kick-ass buildings.

I’m afraid you must be mistaken Smurfy…I’ve been assured that my Lard shirt is the only one of its kind on the planet.

What town do you live in mate?

I’m a Minneapolis guy for the next five months, then I’ll move to the LA area where thick dub should be easier to find.

As you can see they look nothing like Dub Syndicate.

Yeah Adrian is such a nice person. It’s really great when you meet a hero and they happen to be really nice.

Edinburgh is a pretty cool town. The States may not have castles…BUT…it does have Dunkin Donuts.

I’ll be teaching yoga and running programs and such for a studio out there. I’ve lived in MN for a decade and it’s time to get a move on and there’s nowhere I like better than LA and the same company I already manage a pair of studios for is out there so it’s an easy choice.

I was out in Venice a few weeks back, I freakin’ love that area and eventually hope to move there or Santa Monica.

LA gets a heap of dub gigs. I’ll keep you updated when you get there.
