The sky will blacken, the ground will shudder, the earth will open up and BIG DAY OUT will once again tremble in the presence of the awe-inspiring TOOL. “Primal, poignant, poetic and, as always, utterly powerful” (ARTISTdirect, July 2010). Touring Down Under for the first time in four years, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor will be fresh from the studio, where they have been slowly crafting a follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days. From Lateralus to Stinkfist, you know the music. But, backed by a video and laser light show unlike any other, TOOL live is also “the kind of visual experience you’ll probably never have again” (CHARTattack, August 2009). Unmatched in the world of dark, heavy rock, California’s TOOL have over 20 years scorched themselves a place as “one of the best live bands in history” (ARTISTdirect). Be blinded by their light at BIG DAY OUT 2011. (ALL SHOWS)
Yes! I am so stoked at this news. I realise this means nothing to all you guys north of the equator but nonetheless this is a pretty big deal.
Yeah, heard this today. Pretty happy, even though I was a bit disappointed by their last BDO appearance. Personally I am hoping for a side show near me. Also, their set lists are pretty representative of their back catalogue, in '07 we got Opiate, maybe something off Undertow as well, but I can’t recall at this point.
Also, Maynard might be a douche but that’s OK, we can’t all be perfect.
There’s been some Undertow laced in there. Last tour (this summer), they played Intolerance. Every now and then, they would sneak Flood into the mix. Can’t remember the last time anything from Opiate’s seen the light of day though. The summer tour redeemed a lot, considering the last few tours before that were almost identical. They actually decided to switch it up. I get the feeling it won’t be a huge change from what the summer shows were like.
Kinda odd though to be hearing about Tool, when A Perfect Circle is about to go on tour and work and release their album. But I guess one Tool show would be that huge of a distraction. Would much rather APC right now.

I thought I had hear APC were broken up never to release anything again.is there a release date for this album?

i’ve read/seen lots of interviews and he just comes of as an arrogant asshole…i don’t know. i know al might give off the same vibe, but he seems more down to earth, like he’d probably smoke a joint or drink a beer with you. maynard is aloof. the nail in the coffin was when i heard him proclaim to be the “mastemind” behind apc. ugh.
I think some of Maynard’s attitude is just his sense of humor. You get the same vibe reading interviews with people like David Cross. They act sort of snobby and above it all and it’s hard to tell when they’re joking.

i still like the music though.[/reply]
The mastermind? If my memory serves me correctly those songs on Mer de Noms were written for a woman singer but Maynard just happened to be in the right place at the right time. APC is a group effort. Billy Howerdel is just as important. If anything he might be the mastermind of that band and this coming from me who used to practically worship Maynard around the time that album was popular
I think it is because he genuinely detests some of the expectations the ‘uber-fans’ put on him.
So he fucks with it. Puscifer? C’mon, that was one big slap in the face to all the Tool fans who go ‘WoW TOoL’s DrUmMZ pATTErNz RePReseNT ThIs MatHemATICAL COde anD MayNarD is INtONIng THe mAYAn aYahuASCa YaM RoOt In His LYRICZORZ LULZ!’.
Then again, the other three members of Tool genuinely can’t stand him.
Seems like he’d be a fun guy tho.
Anyway, I’ve seen them twice. Their increased popularity seemed to have attracted a lot more fuckwits to their show than the first time I saw them. Had a bunch of them next to me. Probably won’t go to this one. Maybe. I don’t know. It’ll cost a bloody fortune.

maynard isn’t the mastermind of shit. billy howerdal is the “mastermind” of apc…it’s HIS project. that’s why i got pissed when maynard took credit for it.

I always thought Puscifer was his version of Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom - whereby he tried to reinvent himself as a street wise hustler / pimp lounge singer / rap artist. I didn’t think it was clever at all regardless as to whether it was serious or not. Is it intentionally terrible? I doubt it. I’ll bet he’s secretly proud of it. Very proud.
Then again, the other three members of Tool genuinely can’t stand him.
I’d like to believe this, honestly, but unless I see evidence as to the contrary, I highly doubt this is the case. Although I have read of friction between him and Adam Jones. Doesn’t mean they can’t stand him though.
Tool is actually Adam Jones’ band. It’s his idea and his concept. The other band members (especially Maynard) are like actors in an Adam Jones movie.
Seems like he’d be a fun guy tho.
I think he’s a starfucker. He’d like you if you were ‘somebody’.
I see where you’re coming from, but I genuinely think Puscifer was a pisstake. I will agree on one thing tho; I think he is genuinely proud about it, but for different reasons. Mainly proud for the fact so many people fell for it.
With regards to how the other band members perceive him… I reckon I’ll have to call Peligro in on this one, he knows more than me and I’m just going by what he told me.
I personally liked Puscifer. I’m still partial to Mer de Noms but I thought the former was pretty awesome. And you at least gotta like the remix of Vagina Mine that Paul Barker did
I guess if Tool announce a separate show I’ll go, if not I guess I’ll sit it out. Maybe I’ll listen to 10000 Days really loud in my bedroom with the lights off. Or maybe I’ll buy a really good lava lamp.
All I know about Tool and Maynard is that every time I see a picture of the band members socialising, Maynard is never amongst it. I get the impression they’re not really the best of friends with him.
Perhaps it’s more of a ‘business’ partnership.
Oh and hey, has anyone here seen a pic of Danny Carey’s Lamborghini. It’s way cool. And his house is fucking decked out to the back teeth with all sorts of goodies and wacky paraphernalia.
Danny Carey has a fully decked out studio in his loft at home. I’ve seen a picture of it, it’s pretty amazing. He has an amazing collection of occult paraphernalia.
Actually, Tool are supposedly holed up in Danny’s loft writing and rehearsing the new album even as we speak.
