Tool Aenima vinyl reissue

In case anyone is interested Tool’s 1996 ‘magnum opus’ (boy does that term get bandied around a little too often) Aenima has been reissued on colored vinyl for a limited amount of time.

Snagged me one today for $60.

I dunno about this - it doesn’t quite look legit. For one thing there are NO song titles anywhere to be seen - and there are no inserts with all the artwork that came with the cd. Wondering if it was a bootleg. Fans on other boards are calling it a ‘fan club issue’ (whatever the hell that means)…??? If it’s not legit, surely Tool would have the finances necessary to stop something like this. It’s not like a ‘live bootleg’ or anything, it’s actually one of their major label studio releases! It has the BMG logo on it too which is even more perplexing. Not sure what’s goin’ on here. I’ve seen this baby go for staggering amounts on the 'bay.

Can anyone fill me in on this…?

I believe 10,000 Days has also be issued on vinyl by the same company …

where did you get it from… I wonder if it is a slightly less than official release if the source of the audio was from the original source, or just a digital copy on analogue format?

Still… would love me a copy of this, re-issue or not. So yeah, where?

dude, send us a link. and we can give you an opinion.

Peligro, I think I found it listed on discogs.com. They have it listed as an unofficial release, which means that it is probably at best semi-official like an artist approved fan club edition like you said. At worst it is simply a very slick bootleg. Clicking on the link there for the label Zoo Entertainment comes up with this and a CD for Opiate.

Could be a bootleg copy of the vinyl release. That’s not unheard of. See if you can get some pics or info on the official release and compare it to the copy you have.

They are bootlegs…

But audio quality is fine and well worth shelling bucks for…if you can’t afford the $300+ price tag of the original that is!!

I dunno… without meaning to piss on your parade, Peligro (saying this out loud would make me laugh…),

but will it really be worth that much in years to come? bootlegs are a dime a dozen, so… I can’t see it really lifting in value in years to come.

The only ‘collector’ editions I’ve gotten are the new ‘Life Eternal’ disc released by Attila Csihar of mayhem with the original tape masters of the songs off De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, as well as the ‘metal box’ edition of ‘Ordo Ad Chao’, both of which were limited to 3000 copies. I can see those lifting in value, but… that won’t be for a long time. And I won’t be getting rid of ‘Ordo ad Chao’ on account of it being signed by Attila.

Anyone else got any curlecterizin stuffs?

Yes. It’s Tool. Remember.

These things are already selling for big bucks.

And they are ‘semi-official’ fan club versions - endorsed by the band.

I have both these items.

Sometimes boots fetch higher prices than proper releases for all sorts of different reasons, sound quality, rarity of said boot (saw a mifits cd boot called “Beware” gor fo 117.00 a few months back), limited runs… so on and so forth. It would probably be to peligro’s benefit if that vinyl is a boot and the manufacturer gets shut down and all “releases” pulled off the shelves and destroyed…btw unless the band actually owns the music it doesn’t matter if they consent or not to the duplication if the label owns the music and they wanna get pissy about someone cutting in on their profits they will.

Band/Label politics.

It’s enough to make you cry.

I’ve got a Cure live boot from ‘The Top’ era which sells for a bit (beautiful packaging too - best bootleg I’ve ever seen). Also have a mint japanese issue of ‘Faith’ with obi strip from the early 80’s.

Actually, I really need to make a list of all the rarities in my collection. Probably have close to about 500 items that would be highly sought after. Been collecting rare editions for 25 years. Just amassing ‘stuff’ as I go along without really thinking about it. Could probably make a fortune on ebay if I tried.

Like that mint condition signed copy of Sonic Youth’s ‘Evol’ Lp with the fan club insert for a start…

This has been a greatly informative thread… keep the info rollin’, very cool.

Kudos to Peligro’s collection. I guess it’s a good thing that most people who rob homes would generally listen to 50 Cent or Chris Brown and probably think ‘whuddafug is dis shit?’ when ‘stumbling’ upon yer record collection. [;)]

Yeah except that 5 bucks is still 5 bucks at the Pawn shop. Kiss yer collection goodbye, son!

At the time my house was robbed 17 years ago I had all my cd’s in a nice 2x2 table top case so I could easily go through them. Too easy as they just took the whole thing, but thankfully they left my vinyl. They stole my laser disc player too, but left all the movies I guess they thought they were records.

Some of my rarities mostly SP related

aDuck/Philth - Power/Touched 12" (200 copies I think)

Skinny Puppy - Last Rights LP Full Cover (cEvin Key doesn’t even have a copy of this) + another promo DJ copy

Skinny Puppy - Back And Forth Vol.2 Metal Box w/signed print #11 0f 192

Ministry - Work For Love LP [:)]

I will have to look around for some others. I have a lot of Wax Trax/Nettwerk vinyl left.

I’ve got so many rarities in my collection I could open up a store in my bedroom and use the money to buy a new house. But I’m so attached to these things I could never part with them. It’s terrible. Like a disease or a compulsive disorder.

I have the original pressing of Aenima on vinyl. Never been played. I think I’ve taken it out of its plastic sleeve only four or five times in 10 years…just to take a peek at it. Same with Mastodon’s Remission, which I have on blue vinyl. Also never been played.

How geeky is that!

Oh yeah thats a rare one. I have Track 10, almost as rare but only to 1,000 copies. You win this round.

The rarest thing I’ve seen lately is the Severed Heads/Rhythmyx Chymx - Ear Bitten/ No Vowels No Bowels split LP on ebay that sold for around $300. Without the cover [shocked] And the funny thing is the seller didn’t even realize what he had! There’s a couple more online for sale between $1,200-2000. I have the cd thank you, which is just fine for me.

Only 250 copies made in 1980 with each band doing the graphics on their respective side by hand making each copy unique. A large number of this release were lost in a fire in original sevs member Richard Fielding’s (now Loop Orchestra) house.
