Finally had the chance to hear this song for the first time a couple of days ago. Liking it a good bit. What year is this from?
the final version was released in 1988 on Stigmata (“specially priced maxi-single”) 12’’ vinyl single on side B. side A featured remixed version of Stigmata.
the “rough” version of Tonight We Murder appeared on some soundtrack in 1987, being in sort of half-finished, half-demo state.
nice track, yes. it has synth bass and “live” bass as well, awesomeness. and it’s definately from The Land Of Rape And Honey bundle. too bad it’s not on the album.
Awesome. For some reason I was thinking a little after special affect. Kind of a shame this didn’t make the album, it’s pretty good. But i’m going to begin to start/attempt to find all of the b-sides/unreleased stuff. I’m probably one of the only in the dark here when it comes to that since i’ve only really followed the LPs/Albums and nothing more. So hearing stuff like Cold Life and this is really something new and fresh to me. And after hear this and special affect, i’m growing more and more curious to check out My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, which i’m yet to ever hear.
you mean find the actual hard copies of all ministry non-album stuff or just …emmm… digital versions?
songwriters: frank nardiello, paul barker, al jourgensen.
just a footnote.
Yes, quite possibly one of the best Ministry B-sides. I always wished there was more Ministry/Frankie work back then.
I believe this track was put together in 87 or so. There was a rough demo that surfaced a few years ago on the official TKK bootleg “Groovie 13”, but the first actual release was in 88 on the Stigmata single. It was later used in an edited form on the Demon Night soundtrack in 95 or so.
And remember, if you’re tracking down all the b-sides, don’t shy away from the unreleased, live stuff. There were several amazing tracks, especially from the 1982-88 period that never saw a proper release. Some examples:
Same Old Madness (the unreleased single from 82. Currently circulating in live and studio versions)
America (The highlight of the pre-With Sympathy material by far)
Eyes Of Christ (I believe this was written while on the 86 tour. Parts were later reused for several side-projects.)
Thrill Kill Kult (The song, not the band. Though it was co-written by Frankie. The music was later reused by Paul for the Lead Into Gold track “Hatred”. Makes me wonder if there was an earlier version of The Idiot as well, since they were both credited tothe entire 86 tour lineup)
not to mention
Ricky’s Hand (covered in 84 and 86)
Do You Even Like It (very nice 84 ministry song)
Overkill (the early trax version sounds tame, live version was much more raw)
and a whole load of WS-era unreleased tracks:
So-So Life
Love Change
I Never Asked For Nothing
I’ll Do Anything For You (sadly the bootleg recording is crappy on this one)
and there is a cool version of All Day where the only instrument during the verses is the piano, and verses go much slower and Al has such a bitter tone, the whole band kicks in only for the choruses and the endings. awesome.
Love Change always makes me happy, it’s so goofy especially the bit where Al talks to the audience. “It’s getting hot in here, let’s make it hotter.”

Preferably digital. I’m mainly curious of the 80s stuff, which is what everyone mentioned so i’ll have to start searching those down. Only two things from the 90s that i’m curious about TV Song with Connelly on vocals (I think, heard there’s three versions) and Noreen. But the ministry stuff from the 80s is pretty ideal.
i think Noreen is shit… nothing interesting.
as for TV Song; the version on JBMHR single is the first one, it’s a bit different but it still has Al on vocals; then it was touched up and remade for Psalm 69 album. TV III is entirely instrumental sample filled wah wah wank-fest.
the onlly TV Song with vocals of Chris is on some bootlegs but a soundboard quality version is on australian bonus-disc for Psalm 69 called Just Another Fix which has live 6 Psalm 69 tracks from various shows of 92.
and man, have you heard Gibby doing “vocals” for TV Song live? it’s horrendous and hillarious!
I’m almost sure that if you’re listening to butthole surfers or anything Gibby, you’re not listening based on vocals, heh. Sounds pretty interesting though.
If you like Knowhere off “Last Rights” you may like Noreen. There’s a certain mad energy to Ogre’s vocals there. Musically it’s pretty much a less layered version of “The Fall” with a big fat sample from Goblin’s “Suspiria” score dropped in it but I still dig it.
If it’s anything even remotely compared to Last Rights, i’d enjoy it. The Fall is probably one of my top ministry songs, and if you’re comparing it to be a stripped down version in comparison to Knowhere. Sounds like it’s promising.
I like “Noreen” but be warned it is very noisey and also the only known leak of it is(unfortunately) a poor bootleg mix rather than anything like a pro-release.
Tonight We Murder is one of my favorite songs, period. Just gets me all riled up…
Hit me up on Soulseek, Lordpiko. I’ll hook you up.

Tonight w emurder is my first contact with Ministry, and it’s one of my prefered song.
