Tommy Victor

What is his role as far as songwriting goes? Does he contribute at all, or is he just the touring guitarist?

in the album liner notes it credits him as a writer for some songs…

so id guess he contributes…

I get the idea that he’s more than just a touring guitarist, and I believe most of those solos on the last two albums are mainly him (not counting Great Satan and Rio Grande Blood). I’m not sure if Al or Sin did any of the solos on TLS, but in the credits for RGB, Victor did most of the lead guitar on the album.

Yeah hes in the credits for RGB but what are the odds that in a few years time Al will have turned on him and say he was nothing more than a hired hand for a few shows.

that’ll be hard to do since, his name is ont he album as a writer, and in multiple interviews al has compliments the riffs he writes…

Just wait & see.

Wasn’t Paul not credited on previous albums? Did Al not completely undermine Paul’s role in Ministry once he left?

yeah, but if you look at the orger of the credits on th ose albums, paul’s name always came last. it would be jourgensen/rif/atkins/barker. fromt he very get go, al was minimizing barker. as of now, he shares most song credits with victor.

Inside of The Land Of Rape And Honey.
"MINSTRY: ALAIN JOURGENSEN

from The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste
"Ministry is:
Alien Jourgensen [vocals, guitars. programming]
Paul Barker [Bass, Programming]

Produced by Hypo Luxa, Hermes Pan."

Don’t have Psalm69 here right now bit I know it says
“MINISTRY IS:
Al Jourgensen, Paul Barker”

Don’t have acces to the newer records at the moment, so I don’t know about them.

One of the prime reasons why the discography on this site features the two - the inclusion of Barker as part of the duo in name of MINISTRY. I believe William Rieflin did an interview in the mid-90s where he wryly explained he was never a true member, seeing as how he was always listed as an “additional personnel” member. Always thought that was amusing.

A lot of the material, especially Psalm 69 and Dark Side Of The Spoon, you can hear a lot of Paul’s hand in these things. Most of it is simply credited as written by either “Ministry” or “Jourgensen/Barker”, so I’d say Paul always received proper credit. To a degree, anyway.

I think barker did get his credit. But if I read the rieflin interview right (or if even the same one), he pointed out about why he quit, but didn’t consider it quitting since he wasn’t truly “part of the band”, and was only “additional personnel”. It was an interesting read though.

yeah… i saw the scans for NWO vinyl single and the credits for FUCKED were interesting. just “barker/critter”. critter being the ministry’s engineer at the time (dunno his name)

I could have sworn I read an interview that stated that Rieflin was asked to be an official member, but he turned it down.

He wasn’t the first.
