Tom Waits - Glitter and Doom Tour

Any Waits fans here? Gotta admit, it took me YEARS to get into this guy. I have about a dozen of his releases now. I don’t listen to him very frequently, but his stuff is good for the soul once in a while. I’d probably have to go with Mule Variations, Rain Dogs, and Blood Money as my favorites. Anyway, dude is going on tour (a rare occurence, apparently), and the first two nights are in Phoenix. Tickets for Columbus were announced at $82…yikes.

have all his albums. too bad he’s not coming to new york. again.

yeah, better see it because he tours like every five years and does maybe, MAYBE at most 15 shows. if you’re lucky.

dude’s got a family.

notice he always plays the south…? it’s not coincidental.

‘Big Time’ is a great live album, one of the best around I think. ‘Swordfishtrombones’, ‘Bone Machine’, ‘Mule Variations’ are very good albums. ‘Rain Dogs’ has its moments but I find its the album that people, who dont know anything about Tom, always mention as if they know what theyre talking about. Retards.

Yep, Swordfishtrombones and Bone Machine would probably round out my top 5. I just always enjoyed Rain Dogs, but would be the last person to pretend I was any kind of expert on the guy. I finally got into his music when Mule Variations came out, so there was a lot of backtracking on his catalogue. I’m pretty sure I don’t have Big Time…I’ll have to check that one out.

Do check it out; its the best Waits cd i have and it has a good range (think theres around 20 songs on it.) ‘16 shells…’ and ‘Telephone Call from Istanbul’ are the best from it, imo. Theres also a gag about getting pregnant without intercourse involving; a stray bullet, a pierced testicle and a guilt free mother thrown in for good measure.

i don’t know. i like tom waits in doses, kinda like leonard cohen. they’re completely different, of course, but gotta be in the mood.

I’ll second that! More so for Leonard than for Tom.

fuck, again, no NY/NJ

but yes i am a HUGE fuckign waits fan…

So, the opening two nights in Phoenix sold out in about 5 minutes. I’m guessing that Phoenix fans were competing with a lot of Cali fans for tickets. I won’t be going, but a friend of mine was able to buy a pair. Tickets were $110 each ($92 + fees), oof!

1002

I saw him in Chicago a few years ago and it was exactly the same… Tickets were like $90 or so… A friend and I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning and logged into the ticket site 5 minutes before they went on sale. We got tickets like 7 minutes later, and the sold out completely soon after that.

Great show though, saw him at a really cool old performance theater that had like 9 stories or so… I only wish I had brought some opera binoculars to have been able to see him from my nosebleed seats. Amazing performer that man is.

must be from the hype from scarlett johannsenn covering all his songs… all the hipsters are into waits… .

uhm yeah that’s it…

or that cameo he did in the movie “domino”… the whole prophet thing really fit ol’ tom

he’s done many cameos in offbeat stuff…he was in ‘mystery men’

as for johannson: try to avoid it. i heard her sing one of his songs, and i havent heard someone so tone deaf in my life. i am a huge waits fan and couldnt even tell what song she was covering

Waits was good in Mysterymen (“For the ladies!”) and especially Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Johansson’s album is terrible. Nice try, Scarlett. Stick to looking pretty in movies.
