Makes me sad:
The small Saskatchewan town of Tisdale is taking another look at the slogan it has used for 60 years — “Land of Rape and Honey.”

That’s the origin of the album name? I had no idea.
Rape seed! I think the story was that they saw the name on a coffee mug passing through Tisdale. The info is definitely in a Ministry interview, possibly on this site.

Actually, I’ve heard that story, as well as the same thing broken in two: 1) passed through the town between cities on tour and 2) someone brought in a coffee mug to either Chicago Trax or Wax Trax Record store.
Oh, and it’s also the first Ministry spoonerism, as a play on land of milk and honey.
But, if you look at Tisdale on a map, I don’t see how logistically that could make any sense - that they passed through on tour.
Trust me. If you’ve tried the rape in Tinsdale, you’ll find a way to make sure it’s on the tour path, no matter how far out of the way the drive is.
I read that Paul had found a coffee cup with the slogan on it. Al said (at the time) something to the effect of America being the LORAH - the honey is on the top of the ladder, but you get raped by corporations as you climb up it.
From the horses mouth:
“The title came to me when we were touring Canada. We stopped in a truck stop and there was this coffee cup that had a little smiling bee and a big bale of wheat that said, ‘Saskatchewan, the Land of Rape and Honey.’ I thought that sounded really cool. [Laughs]"

That settles it, right?
