I hadn’t done any fan art of the man in a couple years, so I figured I’d spend a week or so on this one. Done primarily in acrylics, watercolor, and ink on a recycled 18"x24" canvas/mat board surface with a bunch of random implements like knives, homemade stencils, a toothbrush, and one incredibly beaten-up palette.
I based this one off a photo of Al & Paul in the “TwitchED” bootleg. I’m pretty impressed with how this one turned out, given my limitations (i.e. my broke ass had to resort to gesso in lieu of decent white paint… which actually worked out aight). The lighting kinda sucked when I took the photo, but otherwise it came out just fine.
Fantastic, brother! I think you should use this as the title “My love for this man requires a restraining order”
great pic, funny quip!

It’s sort of abstract but it’s not… in my linear manner of perceiving things… I just can’t see Paul outright, but the colours, shading, contrast, etc are a pretty good visual representation of his music. Dark, sparse, subtle.
It is a good representation of Paul Barker as a sound.

That about sums up exactly what I was going for. Had a lot of DSOTS/Flowering Blight to aid in the process. Spot-on analysis, man.
This kinda thing is fucking great to come back to after not being around the boards… well, much at all.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I’d do one of Al, but I think carmangary topped anything I could possibly do with that MODOK edit a while ago.
