Others I think that deserve recognition (besides the obvious like Under Pressure):
New Order’s Regret lifted from The Pretenders Talk Of The Town.
Nirvana’s Come As You Are lifted from Killing Joke’s Eighties.
Ministry’s Filth Pig similar to Melvin’s Night Goat.
Ministry’s Scarecrow similar to Led Zeppelin’s When The Levee Breaks.
Ministry’s Bloodlines similar to Ministry’s So What
Flaming Lips ‘Fight Test’ ripped off a Cat Stevens track.
Butthole Surfers’ ‘Dum Dum’ ripps off Black Sabbath’s ‘Children Of The Grave’.
Ministry’s ‘NWO’ ripps off the guitar riff from Slayer’s ‘South Of Heaven’ track - apparently South Of Heaven was on heavy rotation in the studio during the Psalm 69 sessions, or so I have heard.
So I think the Big Black track in question that people think sounds like Stigmata is Racer X. I don’t think the tracks are that close (not as close as Night Goat to Filth Pig anyway) but the drum beats are pretty similar (though Racer X is a much slower track).
Ministry’s Supermanic Soul similar to Therapy?'s Knives.
Definitely. Though I’d still prefer Supermanic there sure is a resemblance.
Other than the ones already mentioned there are bits of songs that are lifted from others:
1,000 Homo Dj’s ‘Better Ways’ uses guitars from Joy Division’s ‘Atrocity Exhibition’
Mogwai’s ‘I Love You, I’m Going To Blow Up Your School’ uses a riff from Tool’s ‘Sober’.
Also when it comes to generic metal its a matter of who got their first as its pretty limited, eg. Slayer and Metallica are always going to have the edge on any speed metal from 90s onwards
Dani california sounded alot like tom petty by coincidence
