Anybody remember a tv show from the UK called the young ones? Well those guys are back together. It’s kind of like Spinal Tap, here there are as a rock band called Bad News and they’re shooting a video for the song Warriors of Genghis Khan. Pretty funny.
Looks a little behind the times, but it’s still pretty funny, and I’m glad to see the three of them back together. Thanks for the news!
I’m pretty sure that’s from about 1988 or so.
Bad News have been around for awhile.
If you notice, the female reporter is Jennifer Saunders from ‘Absolutely Fabulous’. She’s a lot younger looking in the Bad News video than she is now.
That clip is about 15 to 20 years old I’m afraid. They did that mockumentary thing back in the late eighties I think. I believe the last thing the Young Ones crowd did together was the tv show “Bottom” which was great too.
I love the Young Ones, but a reunion would be a bad idea, unless it was for something completely different. Those guys are getting on in age now.
Bad News was funny. Not quite as good as Spinal Tap, but still amusing.

Well, that would explain why it looked so out-of-date to me.
I’d still love to see something from them. For God’s sake, I watched Drop Dead Fred just to see Rik Mayall in something past the 80’s.
i didn’t know it was that old. we just heard about it here. i guess it takes a while to make it’s way across the pond.
A lot of people think the Bad News was a rip of off Spinal Tap but it wasn’t. It was made at the same time. It came from a series called the Comic Strip Present that was first aired in 1982 until 2000. They did 40 eps in total two only two of them where Bad News story’s (and the best two) they did do a tour including Castle Donington and they released an album. The covered Bohemian Rapsody with Brian May as producer.
There couldn’t possibly be a Young Ones reunion. They all died in a bus crash in the last episode.
Bad News was pretty dire, Bottom was worse. A cavalcade of fart jokes.
Neil was the funniest member. I liked the episode where he attempted suicide, but stuffed it up.
I dunno, the episode of Bottom where they try to murder the gas inspector to get out of paying their bill seemed beyond fart jokes and into the realm of amusingly sick to me.
Anyways, didn’t Vivian give birth to a torrent of flatulence in one episode of The Young Ones? I think that type of humor always lingers around these gentleman.
firstly, ‘Bad News’ came out nearly 6 months BEFORE ‘spinal tap’.
secondly Bottom rocks. but if ‘the young ones’ and ‘bottom’ is all you know, you’re badly missing out.
there are about 40 comic strip presents features. ‘BAd News’ is 2 of them. most of all the rest is pure comedy gold. ‘Mr.Jolly Lives Next Door’ is the best one.
as for other shows, there was also ‘Filthy Rich & Catflap’ which had rik mayall, adriane edmonson and nigel planner. Also there was ‘the Dangerous Brothers’ which is the funniest thing ever.
these guys did heaps of stuff…
i’ve got 2 12" vinyl singles of BAD NEWS, with some pretty funny b-sides not on the album.

Ah, but Spinal Tap was going on even before the movie came out. They actually appeared in 1978 on ABC’s “The TV Show” doing a song called “Rock 'N Roll Nightmare”. You can see this video clip on YouTube if you look for it.
That said, even Spinal Tap wasn’t the first to run with this concept. I believe The Rutles pre-dated even the earliest Spinal Tap skit.

I saw Rik mayal in ‘The New Statesman’ at my local theatre recently. He is still a funny guy but the material was weak, which was sad as the original TV show was hilarious. He obviously needs other funny guys to bounce off and that was lacking in this play. My mate saw him in town, when Rik copped him recognising him from a respectable distance, he pulled some of his best comedy faces.

Yah I heard they played and no-one realised it was a joke, just thought they were a crap metal band.Threw bottles of piss etc.
I loved those shows as well, Young Ones was great. Havnt seen much of bad news, have heard the album though. There was something on a few years back (probably about 4-5 now) with the actors that played neil and vivian… maybe rik mayall as well, they were insurance salesman involved in a plane crash or something… I think can’t remember that much of it. was interesting to see them all a bit older.
That was called Four Men In A Car, they did another one called Four Men In a Plane where the plane they where in crashed and they got stuck in the desert. You can get the full seires on R2 DVD. There are some real jems but there are some real crap ones aswell. Castle Donington was a secret as they wanted a real audience reaction. When they toured the UK all they did was piss about on stage to a backing tape, apparantly.

well, either way they do mocument different things…
spinal tap is about a succesful rock/metal band, and Bad News i sabout an unsuccesful metal band.
the important thing is to have both.
also, for those of you who check out the youtube link at the top, you may find it interesting to note that the dude at the mixing desk is Anthony Head (Buffy/Little Britain).
