I was recently having an old school wwf discussion with someone and was trying to think of a particular wrestler. there was a guy who wasn’t around too long, but he wore a graduation gown and cap and carried a diploma and beat his opponents by “outsmarting” them as he was a skinny guy (in comparison to everyone else). anyone else remember this guy??? it was pretty hilarious.
He was “The Genius” , he was “Leaping Lanny Poffo” before that. Real life brother to the Macho Man Randy Savage.
Macho Man was fucking wild. He was great until 91 I’d say. Once he became soft again, forget him.
Heard about this earlier. Total bummer, as he was one of my favorites as a kid. Shame he never made hall of fame…
Yeah, I saw that too! maybe he can get elizebeth to manage him in heaven! while he snaps into a slim jim!!
JYD bought it in a car wreck too! Damn shame! Cars and the WWF =/= safe!
Late,

RIP Macho Man. He was certainly one of my favorites back in the heyday of the WWF.
In a weird music related tangent Macho’s girlfriend/manager after Miss Elizabeth was Gorgeous George who is married to Doyle from the Misfits and Gorgeous Frankenstein.
Thought I’d resurrect this thread seeing as Wrasslemania is around the corner and I’ve kinda de-evolved into my teenage pro wrestling self these last few years.
And congrats to one of my favs Rick Rude making the HOF. Way overdue ya spiteful fuckers at WWE.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Public Enemy. I never got Public Enemy at all. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t watching ECW when they were there, so my introduction to the team was their forgettable WCW run.
Watching them in WCW, they seemed like lame goofs doing a very watered down version of hardcore wrestling – sort of the opposite of what ECW represented. I was really surprised to learn later that they had been huge in ECW.
Also I’ve always said Farooq had the coolest finisher ever.
Savage all the way. I never got on board with the the hulkamania. I was always the fanboy of Savage. Rick Rude was easily one of the best heels, ever. Recently watched his last match with Sting. About fucking time he gets inducted. Shame on WWE to wait until longer after someone’s passed to induct them. I’m still extremely salty that they didn’t induct Savage when he was still around.
Sad Rude had a career ending injury in that final match. WWE has a knack for never giving people their recognition until its too late. They did it with a number of guys, most recently Chyna. They love to hold grudges, fuckers.
Every fifth year or so (or lengthy period of unemployment, whichever comes first), I’ll go on a quick binge of rasslin’-related videos, biographical memoirs etc. Jim Cornette is generally one of the more entertaining characters for delivering a (ahem) no holds barred assessment of where the industry went wrong.
Here’s one of his “favorites”, [url https://youtu.be/ZHcMK3a4Vj8]the infamous Ding Dongs tag team. They were the brainchild of WCW executive VP and former Pizza Hut manager Jim Herd, who nearly ran the promotion into the ground with childish gimmicks like this one. Watch the crowd turn on them almost immediately.
Luckily for rasslin’ die-hards, somebody got the message and the Ding Dongs got [url https://youtu.be/x2WUI_Abtic]buried in dramatic fashion.

Love Cornette. As old school as he is concerning the business he’s always an entertaining interview.
Jim Herd is a prime example of why you dont let non-wrestling people run a wrestling company… this was the guy that let Flair go WITH the belt lmao. WCW had a plethora of embarrassing “booking” moments going back to its inception, its a real wonder they survived until 2001 TBH.
