Kirk is such a pussy. He made me laugh so hard. If he was less pussyish and more just “there” without a side, I would say he is the DEREK SMALLS of the group.
James, I guess, would be more Nigel.
And Lars, I suppose, is David St. Hubbins
To Queer Bait . . . it is TOTALLY the real life Spinal Tap. That’s what makes it so awesome.
And there’s some really inspiring moments too.
The end when they offer the gig with a $1 Million advance to Trujillo . . . . it just makes me tear up.
You see the dude in like the tiniest apartment ever, jamming on top of his crappy little bed and next thing you know he’s being offered a million dollars up front just for saying “Yes” to joining the biggest metal band in the world.
I came out of that movie with the following changes on my metal meter.
Mustaine: Definitely lost metal points and increased pussy points. What a crybaby. Not doing the gingers any favors.
Hammette: One billion pussy points.
Lars: Solid dude. Took over, in my mind, as the actual “heart/soul” and “leader” of Metallica.
Trujillo: Super rad dude, very appreciative of the break he got.
I’ve met Buzz a few times and that combined with what I’ve read and seen/heard in interviews and such just makes me absolutely love the dude. I’m not a Melvins fan. But I certainly am a fan of Buzzo.
Fantastic interview, i’m not a Melvins fan, don’t dislike them but haven’t heard much either, and i thought he seemed like a bit of a dick in the Ministry documentary, but i loved this interview. He seems a very funny guy with no pretense about him at all.
I just never really listened to them apart from the album with Jello (the one with Enchanted Thoughtfist, great song). I’ve heard other bits here and there but i think they’re probably too weird for my simple tastes. I don’t like “challenging” music or music that tries to provoke, really, i just want something with good riffs and drums, and i suspect The Melvins would require deeper thought than i want to put in. I’m sure they’re great and all, i’ve nothing against them, i’ve just never thought about listening to them any deeper than i already have done.
Hahaha, yeah, guilty as charged! My tastes in music are pretty basic and straightforward, really. I see people posting here about bands they love and whatever they’re listening to at the moment and haven’t heard of many of them. I don’t like anything that i would class as “quirky”, so there’s a lot of music that would probably fall under that loose umbrella that some of the folk on here like. Anything Mike Patton does, anything that sounds like circus clown music, jazz, screamo balls like Dillinger Escape Plan, i exclude those all straight away.
If someone recommends something to me, i go out of my way not to listen to it. I don’t know why. I might come back to it and discover it for myself later, but i never listen to anyone’s recommendations. I’m set in my ways, i refuse to use Spotify or whatever because i have music i like and i don’t need some computer telling me what to listen to, haha. To give you an idea of how straightforward my tastes are, Mastodon is the most “out there” band i’ve ever got into [:)]
I was just ball busting…that was more of a shot at Metallica than at you…I love “out there” stuff but I’m most definitely not an elitist music snob…and I love plenty of just straight forward rock n roll…whatever makes a person happy,ya know…

Hey, not at all, i didn’t think you were! My friends laugh at my steadfast refusal to listen to anything that they recommend or anything that requires a few listens to “get”, haha. The first band i really loved was Gn’R (well, apart from Adam and the Ants) so that set me on a lifetime course of straight ahead rock for the most part [:)]
AVC: There are some people that argue that it was the drugs that made him artistic.
BO: So, let me get this straight, if I take LSD and heroin, I’ll play like Jimi Hendrix? Really?! I beg to differ. I guarantee there are guitarists down at Guitar Center without a record contract that are on LSD and heroin and will never make any money playing music. They’re putting that little theory to the test every day. I don’t buy it. I don’t care what you do, but I don’t see alcohol and drugs as being anything other than a way to make whatever problems you have in your life bigger. There’s not a problem in the world you can’t make bigger by drinking a fifth of whiskey. If it worked the other way, they would market it as “problem solving whiskey.” But I believe in personal freedom, and you should be able to do what you want, but you should understand that when you kill yourself with booze and drugs, I’m going to think you’re stupid. That’s just how it is.

I have never lost my love for Gn’R, no matter which incarnation of the band. Every time i hear the opening notes of Welcome to the Jungle i get a shiver down my spine. I think Appetite For Destruction is the greatest debut album by any band ever, Slash is still my favourite guitarist ever, it’s the album that launched a thousand players. Actualy, it’s probably more like several hundred thousand. I started playing guitar because of that album. I love all the albums with the original line-up, and i loved Chinese Democracy, it doesn’t bother me at all if people think i’m an idiot for liking it, haha. I’ve seen the newer Gn’R twice and both times they were outstanding.
Oh yeah, they are absolutely my favourite band ever, no question! Any plans to return Slash to his rightful place as your avatar pic? [;)]

I’m somewhat of a purist in that I think there needs to be more than one member of the original known band left to call it GNR, While axl definitely is the voice of GnR I don’t consider the current line up “guns n roses,” never the less the one time I see the new band it was ok… When they finally took the stage. Chinese democracy is ok but certainly doesn’t have a GnR feel to it…
Slash, yeah!! He’s the reason I started playing guitar. What do you think of his bands? Which is your favorite? I think the Snakepit 5:00 Somewhere is my favorite followed closely by the first Solo album. I don’t mind Myles Kennedy as the singer and he’s by far the best of any singers that have consistently recorded with him but I would really like it if he would go back to the multiple guest singers on his solo Albums. I thought all of the guests were great and only a few dud singers. It’s a shame he couldn’t get kid rock (I know, I know) to sign on with him instead of Myles. I think Kid rock’s voice is by far the most suited compliment Slash’s sound.
I was thinking about changing up the Avatar but I hadn’t really thought of what to change it to. Perhaps Slash will make another appearance. [;)]
I’d take a guess by saying they’ve never seen them live. I can understand folk my find some of their records baffling…but if you come away from their live show still not liking them I’d be totally puzzled. They’re easily one of the deadliest live acts around.
i just want something with good riffs and drums,[/reply]
DUDE!!! Buzzo writes some of THE most greatest gigantic & furious riffs around and Dale Crover is easily in the top 3 best rock/metal drummers around!!! That comment totally puzzles me!!!
I find the most user friendly Melvins album for folk who are metal fans and have never delved into them is Stag. Stag features everything good about Melvins j_cartoon…Maggot is another one you’d dig maybe as it’s total straight ahead metal bad-assery.
