The Slew (Kid Koala & Ex-Wolfmother Rhythm Section)

Just trawling through some new records today and found this strange one…The Slew.

The Slew is Kid Koala, Dynamite D, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett (ex Wolfmother). The album has an interesting story behind it so I’ll just paste this info…

Kid Koala Joins Ex-Wolfmother Rhythm Section for a Psych Rock Live Show That’s “Brash, Loud and Defiantly Turned Up to 11”

7/28/2009 By Jessica Carroll

If you ever questioned Canadian turntable master Kid Koala’s passion for his craft, his new tour should put any doubts to rest.

After a stint creating the soundtrack for a documentary film a few years back with friend and notable hip-hop producer Dynomite D, a full album’s worth of raw, psych rock tracks came into being. Unfortunately for the dudes, the film portion of the project fell apart and their tunes were placed in storage, presumably never to see a release. Yet, when they met up with Australian hard rockers Chris Ross and Myles Heskett (who until recently served as Wolfmother’s rhythm section) and played them the tracks, the Aussies insisted that the tunes see the light of day. With this came the inception of Kid Koala’s upcoming North American tour, “The Slew: Live,” which will hit a select number of Canada/U.S. cities with Ross and Heskett onboard.

The press release promises that the tour will be “brash, loud and defiantly turned up to 11,” with live drums, bass, keys and six turntables all pumping out 70 minutes of epic, hip-hop-influenced psych rock goodness. However, by the looks of things, this may be a live-only outing, so you may want to catch one of the following dates:

9/23 Vancouver, BC - Commodore Ballroom
9/24 Seattle, WA - Nector Lounge
9/25 San Francisco, CA - The Independent
9/27 Los Angeles, CA - Key Club
9/30 Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
10/1 Boston, MA - Great Scott
10/2 Montreal, QC - La Tulipe
10/3 Toronto, ON - Lee’s Palace
10/4 Chicago, IL - The Abbey Pub

This actually sounds like it’s gonna be awesome. Three cheers for Toot for bringin da nooooooooooooooizzzzzzzzze [:)]

Was wondering what those guys would get up to.

I saw wolfmother at a big day out when they on the CAT stage (a big shed for lesserknown acts basically) was just after they had a bit of buzz around them so it was packed. Pretty decent show, even though I couldn’t see shit except backs in front of me.

Stockdale is a bit of a turd now though, my eyes just roll around and around whenever I see or hear him in interviews.

Scroll down to the bottom of their site and you can download the album for free…
