Kick-ass. I missed them playing here. [:(] only because I didn’t want to pay big bucks to see heaven and hell… I don’t really “get” the dio craze. But new Down album should be good, I really loved some of the tracks of Down II. Whats with the looking like an old LP look of cd covers recently… QOTSA did it with Era Vulgaris as well. I like the look, just release it on vinyl too to get the effect [cool]
What else has phil been doing? I only recently peeped one of the superjoint ritual DVDs, I like it, but a bit of his inbetween song banter was a bit wanky. I remember hearing about viking crown and stuff… another one with his wife (or ex?), haven’t heard any though, is it just cliched black metal? (if anyones heard it)
I paid the money to see them open for heaven and hell. I have never in my life seen an opening band blow away the headliner as I did that night. I never liked Dio either, but I gave them the benefit. No way. The crowd was so much more into down (and megadeth too). I left midway during heaven and hell’s set. (sucked that much).
anselmo is one of the biggest idiots ever in metal music. Down had their moments but the new album is IMO very boring.

I saw them play at Jones Beach once, they were complete assholes, Phil treating the crowd like shit while saying things like “You came here to see us” and “Everybody shoot up!”. Everybody hated them.
what band needs to taunt the audience anymore.
would be totally punk rock to just do the set and leave, and not come back for any obligatory en(snores).

I thought Phil did have a habit for a long time, just kept it well hidden from the other guys? He did OD a few times didn’t he? Anyway, yeah I love the output that I have heard. Except maybe Power Metal, heh… it’s ok, but I get a bit sick of it after a few songs.
But agree that he seems to be a bit of a knob, like someone mentioned “shoot up!”, on the dvd I saw when introducing “the alkoholik” - " this is something that all of you should want to be" or something equally as stupid. I dont know if it’s some wierd - I’m pissed off so I’m going to say ridiculous things - kind of thing… or what it is… he seems a little more intelligent (I said a little [:)]) on the pantera home videos… which interestingly is probably when he was on H.
not to mention, his band has members of eyehategod, coc, pantera and crowbar… not uh-hum… fear factory?
phil does have his odd moments though. i was at the pantera show in montreal, when he was drunk off his ass and proclaimed that he was tired of all ‘black power this’, and that ‘tonight is a white night’
pretty tense that was.
regardless. seeing down headline is something to look forward to.

I met Phil way back on the Vulgar tour and he struck me as an Angry Frat Guy that got into drugs and wanted to ‘rock out’. Every time I read an interview or see him speak I just cringe. At least some of his work doesn’t SUCK. The first Down , the first 3 major label Pantera’s were all pretty good.
I’ll give the new one a listen tho, not all hope is lost.
And for the curious, no I didn’t like fucking Damageplan either.

I get why people don’t like Re-inventing the steel, although I still do at times, some of those songs are pretty catchy, although no-where near as good as previous pantera discs. Great Southern Trendkill however is awesome. I used to not think much of it, but have really dug it the last few months. Wierd how phil did vocals at Trents studio and the band did the tunes somewhere else, suppose lots do it, I just dont check liner notes all the time…
Damageplan… hmmmm… I thought maybe I was missing something… guess not! Just seemed pretty ordinary. Haven’t heard any Rebel Meets Rebel, but I’ve heard it also is pretty ordinary.
