I couldn’t find the thread that had the new manson cd so I thought I’d start a new one.
NE WAY I think the only redeeming song on the cd is “running to the edge of the world” very Meachincal Animals-ish.
No other songs have jumped out at me just yet. as far as the Album goes though I think it’s a cross between Eat Me Drink Me and Mechanical… With more of a focus on Eat Me Drink Me. I’d say an 80/20 Split.

I get a big Holy Wood vibe from some of them, but there’s definitely a huge EMDM influence there. Some of it even reminds me of POAAF. Standouts are probably

Sadly though, manson still hasn’t gotten his shit together and yet again, is making a total ass of himself again at concerts. There’s videos of him totally fucking up Irresponsible Hate Anthem and Sweet Dreams.
It’s better than the last one, and it’s grown on me a little since I first heard it…
But what it really comes down to is, this is strike three for him. I won’t be buying the next one unless I know ahead of time that it’s spectacular.

Marilyn Manson got a nice character uppercut by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor just recently. Reznor has spoken out against his former protégé Marilyn Manson, calling him “a dopey clown” in a new interview with Mojo. Reznor: “He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown.”
The love between both musicians began to deteriorate during NIN’s “The Downward Spiral” tour in 1994 says Trent: “During the Spiral tour we propped them up to get our audience turned on to them and at that time a lot of the people in my circle were pretty far down the road as alcoholics. Not Manson. His drive for success and self-preservation was so high, he pretended to be fucked up a lot when he wasn’t.” And he adds: “Things got shitty between us and I’m not blameless. The majority of it though was coming from a resentment guy who finally got out from under the master’s umbrella and was able to stab him in the back.”
And the Nine Inch Nails frontman concludes: “He used to be the smartest guy in the room. And as a fan of his talents, I hope he gets his shit together”.
“The High End of Low” is the seventh studio album by Marilyn Manson. It was recorded in the Hollywood Hills throughout 2008. Sean Beavan, who mixed “Antichrist Superstar”, “Mechanical Animals”, and “Eat Me, Drink Me”, is co-producer of the album. The album was released on May 26th, 2009. The album’s first radio single “Arma-goddamn-motherfuckin-geddon” was released on May 14, 2009.

yea there were some light drama moments… first manson’s book, then they kinda made up but fell out again shortly afterwards.
strangely enough i never saw manson berate reznor so blatanly as reznor speaks about manson now, i dunno. they’re both egomaniacs and their latest releases sucked anyway

Well, I disagree insofar as Trent’s latest release goes - but he’s been talking smack about Manson for awhile now. I think a lot of it is just disappointment in watching someone with a lot of talent squander it, as Manson’s been doing for the last 7 or 8 years.
Also in Trent’s interview he even noted that he isn’t blameless for all that happened between the two. Basically, the two had their fights during and about the making of ACSS. Manson even throws a mic stand at Trent on the Dead To The World VHS, but hits someone else. The book made things worse between the two, and Trent did Starfuckers Inc. as a sort of retort and shot at manson and anyone else who pissed him off at the time I guess (corgan, courtney love, etc.). Made up for a brief period before shit talking between the two commenced again for whatever reason.
I think Trent hit the nail on the head. Manson had some really cool and interesting things to say back then, and now he really is just nothing more than a “dopey clown” consumed by drugs and alcohol. He’s got nothing relevant to say anymore, and all he does now is just make a fool of himself. Manson of 97 had something to say and the balls to to it. Now it’s just balls but no brain.
I read Manson’s book, but that was well over 10 years ago now, and I don’t remember Manson talking any shit about Reznor, Perhaps I’ll have to go back and skim.

Apparently it crossed a few lines with trent. It kinda made trent seem prick-ish at times though, like the making of the lost highway soundtrack. Manson wanted to work on his album, but trent had occupied the studios. There’s more to it, but in the end it all was really an ego clash of the two, and they were far from clean and sober.
This album is definitely a grower and tops both ‘Golden Age’ and ‘Eat Me Drink Me’ IMO because there is a lot more variation. Musically it’s very ‘Mechanical Animals’ meets ‘Eat Me Drink Me’ with a hint of ‘Holy Wood’.
I think the lyrics and theme are what really bring it down. More whining about fucked up relationships and threats against exes that just seem sad and pathetic. (“You said you’d be with me forever and you left me so I’m going to kill you to fulfill your promise” kind of thing…)
The thing to think about is, though, that this theme is actually very honest. It’s not a put on. You can feel the passion in what he says. And even if it’s juvenile (especially at his age), it’s sincere. I think he’s become so self-absorbed and dependent on substances that he feels victimized by all of the other people in his life. I’m not saying I admire this, but honest emotion in lyrics is something I value, even if I disagree with the sentiment behind it.
But the music is quite good on a lot of tracks. I’d say the standouts are (in order of appearance)

“Arma-Goddamn-Mother-Fuckin-Geddon”
“Blank and White”
“I Want to Kill You Like They Do in the Movies”
“WOW”
“I Have to Look Up Just to See Hell”
“Into the Fire”
So IMO about half or more of the album is very solid after a few listens. None of the other songs are terrible.
As for the latest tour footage. Yes he is a complete mess. Wasted on absinthe and coke, the former being the worse problem IMO because he is just too drunk to pull it together. Forgetting lyrics, stopping songs mid-song, completely out of key. He really has become a rock 'n roll cliche.
This further proves the honesty of this album and that the character Marilyn Manson is not a put-on. He really is this fucked up person and I think he has become the monster he made and it’s destroying him. He’s so wrapped up in this persona and self-destructing.
He’s been on a bad track since he lost Dita. I think they really cared for each other and he fucked it up. I believe Twiggy is an enabler and that has something to do with it (he was one of the people in the room at “6 am Christmas morning” as Manson sings on the first track of ‘Eat Me Drink Me’)
He needs rehab desperately.
The thing with Trent is that they have fought and made up several times, the last being when Manson directed and appeared in the vid for “Starfuckers Inc” and they performed the song live together in MSG during the Fragility tour. Trent is usually the one who lashes out at and mocks Manson in press. I think he is more of an asshole in real life than Manson to be honest.
Like a typical recovering addict, his comments about Manson have a condescending edge, holier than thou. He is spot on that Manson needs help, but if he was really a friend he wouldn’t be spouting off about it in a major publication. It’s not like he reached out to Manson in private. So his whole statement is basically a new way for him to continue to shit on Manson in the press but seem like a good guy despite it.

The “annoying bitch” Evan Rachel Wood is actually a very talented and smart actress. She had a part in The Wrestler and is appearing the new Woody Allen film alongside Larry David.
Dita von Teese is a glorified stripper, but has done quite well for herself. She is a fashion icon and a master of self-promotion. She managed to make fetish perofrmance classy and a regular feature on mainstream magazines.
As for Manson’s new girl, he’s been seen with a lot of women lately. Among them is a model named Isanni and, most recently, the porn star Stoya.
