One of cinemas best villains ever
RIP Rutger Hauer.
(20 characters)
RIP, countless industrial groups have referenced the famous speech at the end of Bladerunner, although Revco may be the first.
I loved him in literally everything he’s ever been in.
His performances in movies had a huge impact on me as a teenager who watched a shit ton of late night cable in the 80s…The Hitcher blew me away…he was so menacing and creepy in that role…and in Nighthawks he was such a ruthless terrorist…Flesh + Blood,Blood of Heroes,Ladyhawke and on and on…dude was the real deal…
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
Wulfgar!!!
I don’t recall Flesh + Blood, but all those others for sure.
I also really liked an old movie from the early 80’s called “THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND”.
Oh! And there is a made-for-TV movie from the 80’s that I recently bought on DVD called ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR that I adored as a kid. Haven’t yet watched my DVD but I’m sure I’ll love it again.
Suprised you don’t remember Flesh + Blood…they used to show it a shitload on cable back in the day…its an adventure fantasy action drama flick that has a fair share of sleaze…Jennifer Jason Leigh is in it also…
and Escape from Sobibor is really good…seen it many times…
Do you remember Wanted Dead or Alive.?..one of his few good guy roles…he is trying to stop a terrorist who is wreaking havoc played by Gene Simmons…actually really entertaining flick…
Osterman Weekend yes!!! That is one of his lesser known ones…need to re-watch that one…been ages
I think I only know “Wanted Dead or Alive” by the VHS cover from back in the day, hahaha. I never had cable until 10 years ago so I had a lot of catch up to do, but in college I was renting 5-10 movies a week from the Wherehouse next to me, haha.
“Blood of Heroes” is fucking awesome. I love all those apocalyptic wasteland movies, and that one really stands up as top shelf. I love the gutter-budget sleeze too (hello, Frogtown!!!), but Blood of Heroes is just a damned good film.
You should def check out Flesh + Blood and Wanted DOA…knowing your tastes you would dig both…Wanted has one of the great grindhouse endings of all time…
I would also recommend Split Second and Deadlock aka Wedlock…both 2 great exploitation films where Rutger really shines…
I need to go back and watch “The Hitcher” (1986). Funny memory…I saw that in high school with a friend who was so captivated by Rutger Hauer’s evil character that when he finally died, my friend stood up in the theater and yelled at the screen “Now you’re dead fucker!!”, which prompted some laughs as well as a few “what’s wrong with that dude?” comments. Needless to say, we had to maintain a low profile upon leaving the theater.
