The Killing

Has anyone been watching this series?

Just finished the 3rd episode. You could describe it as a humourless and more conventional Twin Peaks. But I like what I see so far. The NW rainy setting is great, it has a decent cast, and music is right, and the story (though well worn) still makes for compelling viewing.

I haven’t seen the Danish original version so I can’t compare. But what is it with the Scandinavian-American connection as of late? This series, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake, Let The Right One In remake… I think there’s another one I’m missing.

We’re watching the original Danish version and it’s superb. I personally wouldn’t bother watching the USA version as I don’t really see the point of watching the same thing over again…same with the Men Who Hate Woman films and Let The Right One In etc…I mean why do they feel they have to make these films/tv series again in English??? Is it for folk who can’t read?

Unless something can be done to make the English version remakes different from the orig.s it does seem fairly pointless to viewers who are mature enough to accept subtitles (but there’s always an audience who are not bothered reading subtitles). The Kenneth Branagh take on Wallander seemed fairly pointless as they even based that version in Sweden.

I am interested to see Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo though (but haven’t seen the Swedish film or read the book).

The Swedish films are pretty good. I didn’t read the books but obviously there’s a lot of hype surrounding them. My fiance has read them and loved them. She also loved the films too.
