I only ask as I’d like to know if it is as truly awful as what everyone on the net is saying it is. People are actually comparing it to ‘Battlefield Earth’ and ‘Gigli’ in terms of awfulness.
Ha ha!!
That’s hilarious. I HATE M Night Shyamalan - such a smug, pretentious amateur prick. Hate his films. HATE them with a passion. Preachy, heavy handed and ludicrously sentimental. And writes the most un-natural sounding dialogue in modern cinema. His films play out like overly long Twilight Zone reruns and are every bit as predictable. There is NOTHING special about what he does. NOTHING!!
The worst film I have ever seen at a cinema was ‘Signs’ (and I only went because A: it had crop-circles / ufos and B: my gf wanted to see it and I had only started dating her at the time). The second worst was ‘Natural Born Killers’.
Anyone here have equally nauseating cinema experiences??
I understand why you hate a lot of his films Peligro, they are overhyped and most times not all that well made relying on a ‘twist’ that keeps the audience guessing the whole time when he should be concentrating on things like plot, script and other important things. I loathed The Village as I guess I wanted it to be an eeerie horror film rather than the overlong Twilight Episode that it was. I did enjoy Lady in the Water mainly because parts of it were pretty funny, and Paul Giamatti gives a good performance.
That being said I went to the Happening curious, but very sceptical of it being anything worthwhile. The plot gives away the ‘twist’ pretty much halfway through so that it becomes his first film that does not have a twist. instead it plays out like so many films before it, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Night of the Living Dead, and other paranoia films of the '50s and '60s. Since I enjoy this genre I liked the Happening for what it was a continuation of these traditions, and did not find it to be that outlandish even if most of the realities of it is junk science.
If you go in with the mindset that you are seeing a typical Shyamalamadingdong film then it will be a disappointment of colossal proportions. Its not great, I’m not sure if it is even good, but it is certainly in no way the crime against humanity that was Battlefield Earth, or the entire Uwe Boll ouerve.
i saw the happening and really didn’t mind it. well i didn’t mind the story and i thought the first 30 minutes were great when people start going crazy. but the dialogue and characters were pretty weak. it just seemed like every character marky mark ran into along the way was completely ridiculous.
i’d rate this movie the same as signs or the village. worse than his first 2 flicks (i really enjoyed unbreakable) but better than lady in the water. if i had to do it over again i would have just waited and watched it on hbo.
and the only film i ever saw in the theater that i wanted to walk out on was that romeo and juliet flick with dicaprio. and i’ve seen a shitlload of awful movies. yet my girlfriend still raves about that damn movie.
if you want to go see a god flick in theaters now go and check out “The Fall”. Saw it last week and it was beautiful.
dang peligro really hates m. night shamilimenamena, i probably wont see the happening it looks pretty dumb i remember when Signs came out i almost walked out on the part where the kid gets on top of the car to hear the aliens talk can u say “LAME” the ending waz horrible to stupid mel gibson.
I was able to sit thru ‘the sixth sense’ once, it was okay.
‘unbreakable’ was better, mostly due to the 2 lead actors tho and since it was based on the concept of ‘comic books’ the realism factor was all ready set aside a touch.
everythign else i’ve seen from him was fucking horrible.
I agree with peligro on this one. I can’t stand shamlaon…he should’ve stopped with 6th sense. Good movie but it has no staying power it loses it’s appeal after the third viewing. Cinematogrpahy was great with unbreakable (I liked all of the comic book shadow shots!)but the story sucked ass! Signs and and the village were complete garbage!!! Village worse than signs!! lady in the lake was stupid. I’d given up on that loser after the village! I’ll catch the happening on Showtime that way I can change the channel when I’m board of it.
I was looking forward to seeing the strangers but not so much of a priority since jizzy dropped big spoilers on it. probably still catch it in the theaters just not as soon as I planned now.

Yeah, chics and this movie…I don’t get it. This is my ex-girlfriend’s favorite movie. I obligedly watched this one with her, and hated every minute of it. It was bad on so many levels, and it didn’t help that I can’t stand John Leguizamo in anything.
I had a friend working at a cinema back in the early '90s, so I had the hook up for free flicks, and subjected myself to a ton of bad ones. Only walked out of one of them - Regarding Henry, from boredom.
Sometime around '97/'98, another friend (whose sense of humour is something to behold) hosted a double feature of SpiceWorld and Speed 2: Cruise Control, and charged $1 to cover rental fees for this crap fest. I can safely say that this was the worst movie night ever. Consuming several beers only numbed the pain slightly.
When I was manager of a mom and pop video store in the mid '90s there was not a whole lot to do during the morning hours but watch videos and straighten up. I made the mistake of watching Speed 2 so I could tell my customers how it was, and fell asleep. Luckily no one came in for the half hour or so I was out, henceforth this turgid piece is forever known as Speed 2 : Snooze Control in our house.

My God… That’s epically bad.
Dammit… "now I’m gonna have that atrocious song looping in my head all night…

I can’t believe the hype surrounding ‘Unbreakable’. I saw it off the strength of ‘The Sixth Sense’ and was completely underwhelmed. It was an interesting idea that lacked any real cohesiveness.

Oh, I can’t muster the courage to see either ‘The Village’ or ‘Lady In The Water’. I’m just not that brave.
I hear it had the promise of being a good movie, but failed miserably. I’ve never it, and prolly never will, but a friend of mine says, “It starts off like it’s going to be a real good movie, and then it just gets bad, then worse, than even more so”. He says the story was absolute shit, and the direction was mediocre (he follows that stuff). I hadn’t even heard of it until he started talking about it actually.
I try not to see movies I think I’ll hate in the theater.
The last one I can remember is “Hannibal”. I actually booed when the end credits started rolling.

I didn’t think Hannibal was that bad, surely not good either, surely not terrible. One movie i’ve seen that I can actually consider a waste of time and money was the croc. hunter movie. I always hated that guy, and still do, even though he’s no more… But lately though, i’ve been let down by most of the movies that i’ve seen lately in theatres. They’ve run out of ideas, and the only decent one i’ve seen lately was Iron Man. Just seems like a year of shit, but every now and then, something good or decent comes along. Only movie i’m really looking forward to now is the new batman, but other than that, i’m not too optimistic on what comes out after, although i’m sure there’s got to be something.

me too. as I think most people that were duped into seeing it.

I think you are giving him too much benefit of the doubt!

wait for them to be played on tv at least that way you have the remote right there and can wield it at your discretion. don’t even waste a netflix pick on it or even a video rental. They are THAT BAD! I think you hit the nail on the head when you said one hit wonder, dime store, Rod Serling wannabe or something to that effect! I think Plan 9 from Outer Space has more imagination and suspense than a post 6th sense shamalam… movie. I’m going to go this far and say I’d rather sit through a second viewing of Blair witch project than go see a new shalamom… movie

Um…some of The Blair Witch Project was quite good - other parts of it were just plain amateur. The voices in the distance at night were damn convincing.
However, the sequel to Blair Witch is one of the worst sequels of all time - next to the Tomb Raider sequel (which is, incidentally, the worst film I have ever seen on dvd).
wow I’m shocked!!! I don’t think i have nearly the critical eye/opinion that some of you have when it comes to entertainment. so I’m shocked to see that blair witch passed any kind of credibility (for lack of a better word) test. I still can’t stand the damn thing and could easily believe that it couldv’e been in shamalia…'s catalogue. The ONLY “redeeming” (cause i can’t think of a better word) bit was when the fat kid says “I kicked that map into the river!” that was pretty funny but everything prior and post of that was just one big frown fest! and the damn thing wouldn’t die you had all of these 'tards walking around keeping it alive with, “was It real? It sure looked real. I think it was real!!” I actually thought Blair Witch 2 was miles better than the first. but then again when you’re at the bottom the only place to go is up.

Worst moviegoing experience ever was the opening night of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
Flame me all you want, I was about nine when the first novel came out and I basically loved it all up until the piss-poor mockery of a conclusion that was “Deathly Hallows.”
Anyway, I had went to the premiere solely on the reason of seeing one of my favorite scenes from the series played out on the big screen: Ron Weasley being essentially tentacle raped by a semi-animate brain in the Department of Mysteries.
Two hours later, I walked out of the theater, turned to the sky, and screamed:
If cannot honestly believe that Rowling thinks the last Potter book is the best thing she has written Sure it tidied up various plot lines, but 2/3 of the book was spent hiding out in the woods in a tent. Arguing. In the rain. The meat between the bread in this one was severely lacking. I like the books, they are not the second coming of Christ or whatever some people make them out to be, but they have gotten a lot of kids to pick up a book instead of a remote. I have seriously met people who believe Harry Potter is the tool of Satan subverting the minds of children. Its all a bit sad.
The only thing I look forward to in the film adaption of The Deathly Hallows is who they get to portray them when they are older at the end. (I hope it is not just computer aging gimickry used on the kids to make them look older)
