Problems and inconsistancies (sp?) with the Bible. Anybody have any favorites? I have several.
#1 God is Perfect yet he creates 2 people who are not perfect (Adam & Eve OR Steve if your in Cali.) shouldn’t Adam and Eve be perfect? Because if your perfect everything you create will be perfect as well (otherwise your not perfect) So were we designed to be imperfect? if so how can anybody go to hell based on the creator’s crappy design? Also, isn’t that a bit evil to create something and then punish it based on your own design?
#2 If Adam and Eve lived in Paradise how could they fall under the spell of the devil to eat the apple? If they’re in paradise how the hell (Pun INtended) did the devil get in? The Devil in Paradise means that place wasn’t paradise now was it?!
#3 we all know Adam and Eve populated the world through incest and mega long life spans but that doesn’t answer this question:
Adam and Eve’s first born were cane and Able. Cane and able had wives. How if they are only 4 people on the planet? Adam, Eve Cane, Able? Where did their wives come from?
#4 When cane Kills able he is banished and sent to wander the earth. Cane says that’s fine but when people in far away lands see me they will kill me and god says well I’ll put this mark on your head and that way the people in far away lands will know not to hurt you otherwise that harm will come back to them 10 Fold (or whatever it was) Well that’s well and good, but again… the question of population arises. Adam, Eve, Cane. No longer Able (God rest his soul). So, What other people in other far away lands?
and finally a nod to Carlin:
If God is all powerful can he make a rock so big that even he can’t move it?
Forgot one of my tried and trues…If god created everything that means he created the devil…How can a guy/person/thing that is supposed to be all love create something that is so hideously evil? Wouldn’t God have to know what Evil is in order to create it? And if he is indeed all love how can something that is all love have the capacity to create evil? Ladies and Genteleman I give you God and Satan = one and the same!

Why try to make sense of the Bible? The Bible and common sense don’t go hand in hand.
Saw Eddie Izzard the other night. Hilarious. He said something that stood out to me: "They fucked up big time when writing the Bible. “God created Earth” … ok…but they should add three words to it, and the world may have been a much different place, maybe a much better place for all we know. "It is round. "
i think when we die, God will meet us and go “ok dude, i fucked up, that book (bible/koran/etc) didn’t make sense the way i wanted it to so…FREE ENTRY TO HEAVEN ON ME!”
you trying to sell me on the fact it is wrong - is just as bad as someone trying to tell me its right.
who is trying to sell? I think common sense sells itself. [:)] Believe what you want, to each his own. These are just MY questions. Thought maybe others had some as well… Don’t paticipate. No bigee! No disrespect slacklove! you know you’re one of my more favorite people on the board[:P]

Sure, but there is that whole free will thing, you know. I’m not saying I believe all of that crap. I’m just playing Devil’s Advocate.
“Devil’s advocate” Sheesh good one!
Your points are correct however they just refer back to my original post on this see #1 he created them that way so he shouldn’t be pissed with the decisions they made. if he created “freewill” he then created the Evil that goes along with it. because with out his creation there is no possibilty for evil to exist.

No doubt. People tell me that God is infallible, but I usually counter that with “Isn’t letting the middleman transcribe, alter, and eventually wholly change the Word of God a pretty big fuckin’ mistake?”
Many churchies (clergy and the like) no longer hold stuff from the Old Testament as actual events but more so stories from which we can derive “moral” understandings. The church have had to make some ground with science ie. accepting many facets of various sceintific disciplines, because they know they will never enjoy the same power over humans as they did in previous centuries. Its just the same old story with them; they align themselves with the dominant popular force at the time and where the money is. One of the important realities of the church: they are incredibly greedy, money hungry assholes, never mind this ascetic, non materialistic way of life they “encourage”. They want the sheep to have fuck all (treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen) while they seek ways of protecting priests from child molestation charges.
The really annoying thing about Bible thumpers is that when you show their stories to be the bullshit that they are (such as Adam and Eve) or present them with scientific findings, such as dinosaurs, its a ‘test’ of faith. Talk about cowardice.
Morality (though I hate that term) does not derive from the ‘word of god’, it developed through species mutualisms. ‘Love thy neighbour’ was not a command from a bearded dude on a rock, it was copping on to the fact that if you team up with another you can bring about a better reward for those involved instead of clubbing another to death and being on the edge the whole time.
I have never found the bible interesting and have never felt it helpful in any way. Though I will not deny that some of it has been the basis for many great works of art, I do believe great art with religious symbolism (like the stuff of Thomas Cole) could still be fantastical without having the religious underpinnings. It just so happens to be an influence on some great painters.
