The First Ministry Show-34th Anniversary 12/31/81

34 years ago today, Ministry performed it’s first live show.
This took place on 12/31/81 in Chicago at Misfits, followed by another show the next night.

The set list comprised of tracks from the I’m Falling 12", along with a cover of Jimmy Ross’ “First True Love Affair”. From what I could gather, the Ministry version
closely resembled the original, as heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDqmkKRBR6Q

The rest of the set possibly included some additional covers and/or tracks heard at the March 1982 shows.

The lineup for this show was:
Al Jourgensen-vocals/guitar
Robert Roberts-keyboards
John Davis-keybaords
Marty Sorensen-bass
Stephen George-drums
Audrey Stanzler-backing vocals

The group performing “First True Love Affair”. Al, Stevo, Audrey and Marty.

Marty and Robert.

Another of Al and Audrey.

A photo taken from the second show.

Marty Sorensen was present on bass for the first couple shows, but was replaced by Paul Taylor, who himself played a couple of shows before leaving.
Audrey left shortly after, and was replaced by Shay Jones for the late 1982/early 1983 shows.

Here’s a group photo taken outside of a rehearsal sutdio, probably in preperation for the 1982 New York shows:

Happy New Years!

Well… I had been to sea. And pirates are cool besides. But I only wore it that once…and then I gave it back to the lovely woman who had loaned it to me.

The guy peaking around the door looks like he wants to steal your shirt.

It’s like a cryptic juxtaposition how tonight’s show is so far removed from 1981…

great pics though…Al looked amazing back then, they all did!

& who knows maybe in a few years he will wake up & realize doing an original line-up reunion is the way to go!

I hope so or else we can just cherish the priceless vault of early ministry relics & gems~

Happy nu yr mofos!! [:P]

That’s Peter Katsis. He’s likely counting the crowd to get an estimate of the door $$.

No problem. Glad everyone is enjoying it.

In that topmost photo, Al looks more than a little like Robert Smith of the same time period.

It’s also good to see pics of him jamming on his black Iceman guitar (previously, I’d only seen the white one).

It looks black in the photos but it was more of a dark pewter.

Outstanding! Thanks for the flashback.

I PM’d the Ministry FB page with this thread and got this reply:

Thanks! An oldie but goodie… Al told lots of stories about that show over the weekend… Cheers, liz

Whether any of them were true or not is a different matter, but nice to see he still remembers it.

That’s pretty cool that you got an actual response. I’d love to hear Al’s take on it.
