I may put it over at record nerd as well.
Do so.
The thing I didn’t like about your list, was that the format for each item isn’t specified (vinyl, cd etc). Record nerd is better for that kind of thing.
Hell, Recordnerd is better full stop.
Some decent things in that collection of yours, but some baffling ones too (Bon Jovi, Offspring, Motley Crue, Aerosmith…!!!).
Whatever.
I guess I’m more of a ‘musical snob’ than you are if truth be told. I’d say my collection is…well significantly more ‘underground’ or ‘avant garde’ and I’d say I have alot more rarities (expensive ones, items in the $800+ category). Whereas you seem to be more rock/punk oriented.
Not saying that’s a good or a bad thing or ‘showing off’ so to speak, just an observation…
good list man!
I know what you mean Peligro…I do have a (small) soft spot for some lesser avant garde stuff. I can listen to something like O Yuki Conjugate but then put on early Prince or something.
I used to have cd-tracker but it was shut down. at the time I had around 1,200, I got up to about 1,400 but am back down to about 1,200 again since I’ve been selling them to my local cd shop. Once cd-tracker went down, I sadly never kept track and just don’t have the time to anymore.

I have decided I will. I already have an account set up with some wants BUT it is so time consuming to input 600 and some odd cd’s I’ll wait until they update the site to make it more list friendly

Thay are All CDs. I didn’t list my Vinyl

I’m not used to “List” page for wants and trades and such… Seems they could do it better but I’ll be damned if i know how

I thought a few people would get a chuckle out of some CDs I have, Although I’m surprised at the ones you listed and not the Boys II Men cd or Paula Abdul or some of the other disgusting pop CDs that are there
Whatever.
I guess I’m more of a ‘musical snob’ than you are if truth be told.
Oh that didn’t need to be said, I think that’s pretty obvious… No bigge though, I’m sure you’ve got stuff I’d bawk at.
I’d say my collection is…well significantly more ‘underground’ or ‘avant garde’ and I’d say I have alot more rarities (expensive ones, items in the $800+ category). Whereas you seem to be more rock/punk oriented.
I was into rap when I was in grammar school for about a year then I got into Rock and Metal at the end of grammar school all the way through Junior High and then at the end of Jr. High and the start of High School I discoverd Punk and seeing as how High School means you’re old enough to have a job, That meant that since the music I was into at the time was Punk/Metal/rock that’s what my new found cash flow was spent on(hence the Aerosmith, Motely Crue (Don’t go away mad (just Go Away) IS still a bad ass Crue Song!!) and Offspring…ALthough I do like them still, they just don’t get much roation)
So, You gotta Figure this is 20 years of Collecting so it spans back to when I was in Jr. High School and I didn’t start getting into underground music until late '90s mostly because the town where I came from didn’t lend itself to that kind of music. Until then, the most underground music I had was Ministry. I’ve only recently had a place to even look for music like that the last 5 years or so (Amoeba) As far as Expensive music I think the Most expensive thing I own is that Misfits 12 Hits From Hell CD which was about 125.00 Due to it’s limited availability. I don’t even think I know of any Music that I would want that would cost $800+…
Although, I have a quite a few CDs that I bought cheap and have risen in price.
Not saying that’s a good or a bad thing or ‘showing off’ so to speak, just an observation…
No Problem, That’s Why I posted, for observation.

Not bad grmpysmrf I’m liking yer RATM collection, btw have you heard the song Darkness? its pretty damn good, been listening to that a lot lately.
I gotta say though, seeing 311 made me lmao.

There’s nothing wrong with ‘pop’ per se - not if it’s creative and honest. I s’pose that goes for any genre though doesn’t it. I like ‘noise’, but at the same time will acknowledge that there are heaps of crap ‘noise’ artists out there too.
I listen to Prince, Madonna, Kate Bush, Sade, Bryan Ferry, Fleetwood Mac…not just arty, weird stuff.

Yeah. I was going to suggest maybe you were from a small country town - where the ‘weirdest’ thing on offer might have been Metallica or Slayer.
I had ‘experimental’ or ‘alternative’ music forced on me by my small, insular group of school friends in the late '80s. Grew up listening to Jesus And Mary Chain, Bauhaus, Test Dept, Neubauten, Tackhead, The Pop Group and Black Flag.
Needless to say I didn’t exactly fit in growing up in a white, snobby, wealthy upperclass suburb and attending a white, snobby, upperclass wealthy all boys school. My teen years were spent avoiding being seriously beaten up by jock morons and being ridiculed by rich twats who were bought BMWs and Mercedes on their 18th birthdays.
Happy times. Wish I could be arsed writing a book about the experience.

I have a few Coil, Boredoms and Melvins items that would sell for a bit.
When Nirvana toured Australia in January 1992 (queued for tickets but missed out) I bought the ‘Bleach’ album on green vinyl, which came housed in a hessian bag with the tour dates listed on the back. Sold it a year later for $30 and a bag of weed.
It now sells on ebay for $7500.
[shocked]

Thanks, I believe “Darkness” is “Darkness Of Greed” and i have several versions of it… studio edit is the B side to Killing In The Name. Not one of my favorites but it’s not bad!
I gotta say though, seeing 311 made me lmao.
I didn’t buy that one!! [:)] It was left at my house by the neighbor kid just days before he ran away to pennsylvania. so I did what anyone would do…I filed it on the bottom!![;)]

Bingo! We have 3 radio stations that play both kinds of music Country and Western! And one “rock” station that gets no harder than Iron Butterfly. Little So. Cal. town 200 miles from Vegas And 80 miles from Hollywood and we couldn’t get any of their radio stations. [:(][mad]
Needless to say I didn’t exactly fit in growing up… being ridiculed by rich twats who were bought BMWs and Mercedes on their 18th birthdays.
Ha! at least they were legitimately rich! In my town this attitude was still there but it was put out by ugly low middle class bitches and then it was even worse from them at the 10 year reunion when they were even uglier and now FATTER[:)] At least it’s funny now instead of depressing. If ever i go to another reunion (probably not) I’m going to walk around with a mirror that way when the attitude rears it’s fat ugly head I’ll pull out that mirror and say apparently you haven’t looked into one of these in the last 20 years!

Excellent collection, man.
“Welcome to the Secret World of Ministry”… That title is extremely funny to me, like some reject episode of Dark Shadows or something.

Ignore the hype and idiotic media labels this trio had to deal with and you’ll find Bleach is one of the greatest albums ever made - period.

well, nirvana’s my outright favorite band ever, and indeed the greatest band ever, but seriously, bleach fucking sucks.

Did you ever get the old ‘what the hell kind of music are you listening to anyway’ schtick from friends/family/classmates while growing up in that small town of yours? Do you ever get it now?
Y’know, it’s where they throw any number of wild accusations at you - anything from a Satanist/Weirdo/Child Molester/Drug Addict to literally being the devil incarnate.
I got that from time to time. It would usually start off something like…“if it wasn’t for sick music like the rubbish you listen to we wouldn’t have half the problems we have in this world. It’s people like you who feed this blaspemous abomination by throwing money at the sick minded corruptors who peddle this kind of filth. I remember when I was a lad and we had real music not this rubbish and blah blah blah blah…”.
I’m sure most of us here have encountered that sometime or other.
us with our evil satanic music… yet like… for example… they had jerry lee lewis and he married a kid (was it his cousin? it was winona ryder in that movie)
‘The Killer’ married his 13 yr old cousin.
He was still technically married to his first wife at the time, I think.
Word. Halo, Godflesh, Whitehouse, and Pig Destroyer on heavy rotation doesn’t help this at ALL.
Back in the early 90’s, I was DJing at a friend’s 18th birthday, playing all manner of ‘evil’ music like Ministry, Godflesh, Skinny Puppy, Scratch Acid, Big Black…much to the chagrin of the young teenybopper party goers whose idea of ‘dark alternative’ was listening to The Cure’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ with the lights out.
Anyway, at some point I chuck on Einsturzende Neubauten’s ‘Yu Gung (mix)’ and this girl actually got up and ran out of the room crying. I kid you not. She was bawling her eyes out. And in a matter of seconds I was surrounded by angry parents and party goers demanding that I ‘end this nonsense right now and pack up and leave’.
‘This has gone too far’ they cried ‘I don’t know what the hell it is you are trying to prove, pal!!’.
Some idiot parent actually stood there, arms folded and foot tapping like a fucking military sargeant, while I packed my gear and then promptly escorted me off the premises making sure that I didn’t attempt any ‘funny business’ (in his words).
Moral of the story - I love evil music. It makes people do funny things. And then I laugh at them.
Yes, and also at work.
Peligro
great story. Parents fault for hiring you! I love How It’s Always somebody elses fault when it comes to parents!

Oh yeah, it never ends! Although, it has slowed a bit in my old age. However, I still get looked at rather strangely whenever i attempt to describe the kind of music I like. So Alot of times I just say i like metal to avoid any kind of drawn out conversations that go no where…
