The Dark Knight Rises + Prometheus trailers

I disagree. I think they went with a very philosophical approach. More philosophy than anything else really. And I agree about Theron. Her character was empty and added absolutely nothing.

philosophical!? it was the most basic and childish explanation of original life ever. there was nothing new, nothing interesting, and most of all, nothing worth of the alien tie ins that it desperately advertised and demanded that we all notice.

Show me on the doll where Ridley Scott touched you.

Philosophical, they explored a fictional explanation of the beginning of humanity. That there is no God and there’s another civilization that’s responsible. Also there’s the fact that we apparently disgraced ourselves in their eyes, they considered us a mistake worth erasing.

You may think it’s weak. But IT IS philosophical. Like it or not.

no, you are right, im just… well…

the alien mythos has been a huge part of not just my life, but my family for so long that this movie had the potential to take movie of the year for me.

yes, the topic was philosophical, but god, it was pedestrian. it was something that has been thought of and run through a million times.

just… weak.

and the reason i have some resentment towards Ridley is because he has been so disrespectful of Aliens, and all the following explorations. his arrogance and self-importance is sickening.

I grew up with the Alien movies. I was way young when I first saw the chest-buster. It definitely left a huge impact with me. I didn’t even know much about Prometheus until I saw the trailer, which looked insanely similiar to Alien. The pods, etc. It looked like a new Alien movie.

Then I hear, it’s “prequel, but not really”. I walked into the theater with that exactly in mind. Probably see some things that may tie into the Alien series, but I wasn’t expecting too much from the interviews I had seen. And I got what I expected, which isn’t a bad thing. It did answer a few questions, but for the most part, Prometheus is it’s own thing. Yeah, it’s the same universe, and so on. But it’s not Alien. It just so happened to coincide the creation of the xenomorph.

I loved it. Can’t wait to see it again. And i’ll be the first to admit, that right after I got home from watching it, I popped in Alien.

Re-watched the original Alien 3 the other day, thought maybe time would be good to it…wasn’t as bad as I remembered, still flawed though. Great actors in it, too bad some of the writing was the way it was.

you should watch the assembly cut, VASTLY superior.

also, i dont wanna get into it all here, but you should read up on the details of its production history, some really horrible stories there… and some AWESOME script ideas… also some crummy ones. haha.

Oh I’m well aware of its history, I don’t have the Quadrilogy box set. I just have the 2disc versions of the first two films, couldn’t picture owning Alien 3 and 4 heh…

I will check that out one day though

Absolutely. A world of difference. The extended original version is actually quite a good film (particularly in light of what came after it). The doc.s on Alien3 are also v interesting. I thought the wooden planet with monks idea was kind of cool (but too far fetched/impossible). The W Gibson attempt was total crap though; just a weaker version of Aliens, and the script was woeful. The quadrilogy box set is a fine set; I don’t usually go in for extras on dvds but the alien box set is a great addition, particularly as you can get it for dirt cheap these days.

I’ve been rewatching the movies as well. Alien 3 last week. And Resurrection sometime soon-ish. Getting into the mood for Batman atm. Just bought Batman Begins on blu ray a couple days ago. Just need to find the time for them…

(damn breaking bad…)

Stream of the soundtrack to DKR. Big stuff. Much of it reworking of material from last two movies but still impressive

Dark Knight Rises is shit. Such a fucking let down. A torrid mess. It seems they’ve all just crawled up their own arses and just threw something out thinking it would be great. It’s a classic example of a movie looking pretty good from the trailer then is a complete let down. Prometheus is similar in that vein. They didn’t even make proper use of yer one in the sexy cat suit. If you haven’t seen it yet, lower lower lower your expectations or don’t bother at all.

haha i could always count on coming to this forum to see dissenters. i haven’t seen the movie, but i’ve heard unanimously that it’s pretty much the greatest superhero movie of all time.

meh, i’ll just download/stream when it comes out on BR.

I think you must be dealing with space cadets. That line Joker has in the second one “you have got nothing to threaten me with”… that’s what Dark Knight is saying to this clownfest of a movie. It has no hope. No self respecting film enthusiast (who’s not an uptight bore who can’t appreciate a quality blockbuster) could pass this as a great one. I’d fail just for its arrogance.

HAHA!!! I’m completely apathetic when it comes to all these super hero movies. I had free passes to a premiere screening of AVENGERS but ran away when I saw I was going to get frisked and searched on entry (I was smuggling beers into the theatre). I decided to keep my beers (and my $7 popcorn) and ditch the movie.

I heard the 3D graphics at the midnight premier in colorado were killer.

I have been hearing similar reactions here. Personally, I thought the trailer looked underwhelming and charisma free. So, if the film is an ever bigger letdown (as you say) than the trailer…I’ll probably avoid this.

Everyone loves the movie… I think it was alright… Very dragged on and convoluted. If they had cut out maybe a half hour, it might have been better. I’m not saying I don’t like it. I do, but compared to the other two movies, it’s weak. They had the story, they had everything working, but they just didn’t know when it was enough. The acting was even great. Loved the ending. I think it would’ve been better as a 2 hour movie though.

6.5/10

HAHA!!! I’m completely apathetic when it comes to all these super hero movies.

I’m not apathetic about supero film geeks though. There is no end to the pleasure I derive in taunting them. In my last workplace I was surrounded by 35 year old man boys who would literally cream over each other while discussing the latest Spiderman/Batman/X Men/Iron Man/Superman or Harry Potter shitfest.

Dude…Have you seen CramButt Man IV: The Quest For Freedom!!! Dude don’t tell me you haven’t seen it!! It’s awesome!! Awesome. Dude, you have to see it with me this weekend. I went last night and it was so awesome I have to go again. Dude you just have to go with me. I need someone to sit next to me who fully appreciates just how awesome CramButt Man IV: The Quest For Freedom is! Dude the cgi!!! The CGI dude…it was AWESOME!!!”

Often I would loudly make smartarse comments while sitting at my desk sipping coffee on my break and say shit like:

"I went to the cineplex on the weekend and ended up going home empty handed as there were only super hero and Pixar shitfest films that only emotionally regressive and sexually stunted 35 year old manboys would go and see. It’s a complete travesty these days that suburbanites have not one iota of artistic and cultural awareness between them. "

or

Did anyone go and see the new Lars VonTrier film yet. It was really good. I completely agree with his bleak views on humanity and his almost contemptuous studies of human frailties and emotional despondance. I think his subtle use of claustrophobic environments works as a narrative for the cluttered microcosm of the individual psyche. I think it resonates with the current generation’s sense of detached ambivilance and harkens back to Bergman’s mid sixties period.”

Which would both be met with complete silence.

This rules. My friend and I smuggled Coronas and burritos and nachos into a packed screening of King Kong. We more or less laid it out like a picnic. Everyone around us looked like they wanted to say something to us but no one did shit about it - possibly because we were both dressed in black leather and had Burzum t shirts on.

Batman can bite it.

Let me know when “Crambutt Man IV: The Quest for Freedom” comes out, though.
