THE CORRUGATION - Kingdom Of Rain (The The Cover)

When my friend Dawn was in town over Halloween weekend, we decided to record a studio version of Kingdom Of Rain, just for fun. Not to make excuses for any imperfections, but we threw it together rather quickly, and it was my first time using Adobe Audition for mastering. It came out alright, though I’ll be the first to say that I do a horrible Matt Johnson. I also threw together a Mind Bomb-themed sleeve…

Nice. Your vox and your friend’s complement each other very well (though at the chorus when both singing together it might be a little jumbled) She’s a good singer, reminds me of Jarboe a bit (when Jarboe is not annoying).

Also it may only be temporary (or my computer) but the image doesn’t show, just get the red x instead.

Thanks Mick, I do appreciate it. The image should be viewable now.

The artwork works fine for me. And it looks great.

Yeah I can see it now, tis cool.

Not familiar with The The, but you are the coolest, so I think it’ll all work out. I’ll post my thoughts on this beast after a few spins. Respect!

Why the hell haven’t I added you on the 'Space yet?

I’m not on the MySpace page much, but add me, please. I appreciate it.

I don’t suppose you’re gonna be in Phoenix by some chance this weekend? The bar we played most of our gigs at is closing their doors next Monday - which really sucks - so we’re going to play a farewell show for the owner this Saturday night (now we have to find a new place that will let us play our obscure crap). We’re digging up most of our old covers, along with the new stuff (including an extended remix of Chasing Shadows), and my sister’s helping out with the female vox. Here’s our insane set list; I’ll be shocked if we actually get through this:

That’s a mammoth of a beast of a set list!

Are bars shutting up shop like a newly cloistered nun’s vagina in the States too? It’s a shame.

I don’t suppose you’re gonna be in Phoenix by some chance this weekend?

Not so, I;m afraid, but for a set with these…

In Ruins (The Corrugation)
The Darkest Place (The Corrugation)
The Diversion (The Corrugation)
Consumed (The Corrugation)
Chasing Shadows [Extended Remix] (The Corrugation)
Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) Waste (Front 242)

Yes (Click Click)
Sunken Lives (Trisomie 21)
Lab Report (The Corrugation)
Everyday Is Halloween (Ministry)

…I’m seriously tempted to just consider blowing off the family entirely. FUCK, dude, this is really a killer list.

Yeah, this place had everything going for it - great food, good beers on tap, the staff was awesome, the walls weren’t littered with NASCAR and sports junk. Instead, there were dragon head lamps, oil on wood paintings, candles, gothic statuettes, skid plate walls on the bar, charcoal gray walls, it was a cool atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was a SEVERE lack of business at this place, and you could point the finger at several things - the economy, lack of advertising, reputation of the building (which had been several ‘dirty’ neighborhood bars in the past), and even location. It’s in a nice area (a mile from my house), but it’s on the corner of an intersection, and there is a long median that prohibits anyone from turning left into the parking lot heading east. The name “Lil’ Cal’s” with a red devil logo didn’t exactly distinguish the place from other bars in the area.

Our gigs were bringing in more people than their Karaoke, open mic nights, and football on Sundays, which was NOT a good sign. The owner is way cool, she’s only 37, and during the week she’d pipe her iPod into the bar (in lieu of the usually-annoying autoplay jukebox). So on any given day, you could pop in for a beer and here stuff like Acid Bath, Concrete Blonde, Skinny Puppy, Cult, NIN, Massive Attack…total alternative/metal chic. The stage was too small for a drum kit, so it was perfect for my band. It really sucks that such a great place is going away, meanwhile the parking lot at Crapplebee’s is full every night.

Ha! Thanks man, but I’d hate to lure you down to the Valley with such offerings, only to not play all that shit at the end! I certainly plan to make it all the way through, but I wouldn’t be surprised if my voice craps out by the end of the third set! It’s an ambitious, if not eclectic set, but we just want to break out everything we have that night and have a wild time. I need to retire most of these covers after Saturday, our next gig (next year) needs to contain way more original material.

Crap, I left one off the list, we’re also doing “I Prefer” by Ministry. Make it 41 songs, we’re doomed.

You’re a musical masochist.
