Hey Jizz have you seen that new Bakshi art book that came out a while back? I haven’t picked it up yet, but its a whole career overview, and frankly its about time the man got his due. I didn’t get to see Wizards when it came out as my parents took me to Star Wars the following week instead so I didn’t see it until the early eighties on cable. Shit I wanted to be Necron 99 as a kid so he gets my vote for coolest cartoon character [:)]
Most of the animators working today owe Bakshi a debt for pushing the boundries of what animation could be from his work with the Krantz '60’s Spider-man series to his adult/fantasy films to the new Mighty Mouse (anyone remember the cocaine sniffing scandal?).

Cool!

Here’s me and Jizzim’s fav Family Guy character!

Cool, I am looking forward to getting this book as well, it should be a good read. I’ve always loved his version of Lord of the Rings, and it does not in any way deserve the derision the fans pile on it. It is just sad that things Peter Jackson lifted from it that weren’t in the books didn’t get the proper credit.

I am very familiar with Vaughn Bode’s work, especially Cobalt 60, and Cheech Wizard which is close to the ‘Wizards’ style. I’ve met his son Mark several times, and he’s a nice enough fellow following in his father’s underground comic footsteps, but he’s carried a chip on his shoulder for thirty years regarding Bakshi, and Wizards.

I also talked to James Gurney of Dinotopia fame at a book signing, and he had lots of great stories of working on Fire and Ice with Frank Frazetta as a background painter. I always wanted a cel from this film, but they cost an arm and leg even back in the '80s.

Wizards is still my favorite Bakshi film, with Fire and Ice and LOTR next. One of my favorite memories is seeing all these films in a theater in 1986 at a convention that Ralph Bakshi was one of the guests of honor. That made up for missing them the first time out.

I like how Gimli the Dwarf is the tallest character in Bakshi’s LotR.

Helloooo … it’s me … coolest cartoon character!!!
