were i to divulge the title of my book, it would lose its charm for me.
i think i told connelly and he thought it was brilliant.
A lot of people here are 30+ years old, i was under the impression everyone was in their 20s.
I’m 51.
Born and raised a stone’s throw from the South Side of Chicago. Attended Catholic grade school where I learned to play the accordian. Stand-out athlete, especially baseball. Joined the Navy at 17. Completed my stint 3 months shy of my 20th BD. Attended a couple of years of college then moved to the North Side of Chicago. Joined a band. Met my wife. Had 2 sons. Worked for NASA. Have, at various times, lived in Memphis, San Diego, Cambridge MA and Houston. Currently living outside of Chicago. My wife and I will celebrate our 25th anniversary this fall.

Then he told you you couldn’t use it because “Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible, and Fried” is already taken.

JSC?
JSC?
Yep. Building 2.

PAO?
I think I used to work with one of your former neighbors. If I remember correctly, his wife works(ed) in the PAO.

PAO indeed. Actually, a PAO contractor. I’m guessing Eileen Hawley?

Steve is her husband. I worked one of his flights, STS-93. Worked with the crew in building 5 simming getting Chandra out of the bay if it became stuck at the 29 degree checkout point. I did the deploy/clearance analysis.
I was thinking Brian (Canadian) and Laura (Minnesotan) R.
I used to work with Brian when he worked for Boeing and before I moved to KSC. He’s a huge fan of The Replacements.
The story: There was a group of us who went to watch the STS-93 launch at a local pub when Brian and I started discussing music. He asked me if I had ever heard of a little band called Ministry. I said yes. Then he said that you guys were one time neighbors. Not that he would lie to me about it, but at the time, I didn’t know if I should believe him or not due to the name dropping - name dropping always makes me suspicious.
Just a couple months short of ten years later, you may very well have proven what he said to be 100% true.
are you guys spys or what.

Brian and Laura R****n. Well, I’m not sure what Laura is going by these days because they’re since divorced. Sure, I knew them very well. We Midwestern transplants tended to hang together. We lived about a half a block away from each other in El Lago which is about 3 miles east of JSC. I know they had twin sons. Brian was a big, gregarious guy. Loved to drink and shoot darts. I’ll have to look him up. I’m pretty sure they’re both still at JSC.

Spot on. I haven’t kept in contact with very many people since I left. I figure if anyone wants to talk to me, they know where to find my e-mail and work number.
Speaking of which, they are in global e-mail and Laura is still listed under R.
The pub (Boondoggles) is in El Lago right off of NASA Road 1 and Lakeshore, very close by.
you ARE spys–spies.
We even speak in code.
Seriously, I didn’t understand what anyone was talking about for approximately the first three months that I worked there. It’s the only place where the same acronym can be used in one meeting and mean 10 different things, depending on what department is presenting.

It’s always fun to use NASA-speak around non-NASA personnel, i.e., the Shuttle is really the whole package, not just the orbiter. Ascent/descent, ingress/egress, EVA, SRB, ET…all that stuff. My favorite phrase (aside, of course, “Copy that”) was “No Joy”. For all you non-NASA folks “No Joy” simply means…“I can’t get it to work” or “there’s an anomaly”. I always thought it was funny that the acronym for pilot was PLT, pronounced P-L-T which actually has more syllables than just saying “pilot”.
I worked 36 missions between '95-'01 and spent a lot of time talking on the loops at Mission Control…so by the time I left I had the hang of it pretty good.

Tally Ho!
I was there '97 to '02 and worked 5 missions supporting DM3 and one mission supporting DM2.
I was going to pip in here and say you guys were space cadets because I couldn’t make out what the hell was going on.
