Taggy Matcher's Insane Hip Hop/Reggae Mash Up 7"s!

This guy (or guys or girl/gals?!) has been releasing insane classic Reggae/Hip Hop mash ups on 7" vinyl over the last few years on the awesome Stix Records.

Basically Taggy Matcher takes a classic Hip Hop cut and blends it oh so beautifully with a classic reggae riddim.

Lot’s of people have done this but I can honestly say Taggy does it better than most without a doubt!

Below Is info on the 7"s with regards to who he’s put in the blender!

RAPPOORS DELIGHT 7"
Busta Rhymes infamous “Woo Haa!” is layerd up over an awesome reggae cover of Sugarhill Gangs “Rappers Delight”. The resultant mash up is first class, with excellent production with the choice pairing of Busta Rhymes and this rare reggae riddim. On the flip is the instrumental in case you feeling like putting your own accapella over.

NEXT EPISODE 7"
Brilliant reggae cover/mash of Dr Dre’s “Next Episode” done Taggy Matcher stylee… Big!

ROOT DOWN/NAUTILUS 7"
Taggy Matcher returns with another 7’’ of excellente reggae covers - the subject matter this time is again the Beastie Boys, “Root Down” taken from 1994’s “Ill Communication”, whilst on the flip Bob James’ “Nautilus” gets a spliffed out reggae cover!

HYPNOTIZE/REAL HIP HOP 7"
The latest Stix comes from Taggy Matcher who adds a skanking reggae riddim under Biggie Smalls’s ‘Hypnotize’ on the A side while more summery reggae / hip hop sounds can be found on the B side in this mash up of Das EFX’s ‘Real Hip Hop’. Nice!

AIN’T HARD TO TELL 7"
The 10th release on Stix Records. And Taggy Matcher doesn’t let us down. Nas’s ‘Ain’t To Tell’ gets re fixed over some top Reggae grooves. If you have bought a Taggy 7" before you know they kill it and this is no different. Massive Christmas Party 7"!!! Also a version on the flip for some low down groovin.

THE MESSAGE/ROCKIT 7"
From the Dynamics comes this cheeky bootleg reggae version of Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” & on the flip a fun cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit”. Fans of the Dynamics covers will dig these but if the vocal covers of previous singles put you off, these are even better!!! Limited!

FRONTIN/MY ADIDAS 7"
Taggy Matcher returns with another soul/rap/reggae mash-up. This time round it’s Pharell’s Frontin acapella dropped over a deep dub beat - all the way to Kingston. On the flip side, they feature a rocksteady version of a true hip hop/electro classic! My Adidas is a great reworking of the RUN DMC tune, with a dub-like rhythm to it and a really classic sound overall. Two top-notch party pieces.

SHIMMY SHIMMY YA/ON AND ON 7"
Taggy returns! The new Stix holds two fresh mash ups from the man called Matcher with ODB’s classic ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’ getting the reggae treatment while Erykah Badu’s timeless ‘On & On’ gets a good going over on the B side. Essential party gear as always

These 7"s are so cool…infact I scored one the other week and had to buy them all becase of the devastating funk factor!

All the record stores I visited sold out of them pretty damn quick. Discogs has a few of them at already pricey sums. Juno has them all (that’s where I got the rest of mine after snagging one at a local record store).

I couldn’t find a myspace for people to listen to the songs but you can hear and buy them at the link below…

These are my fav records of the moment for sho nuff!

Never heard of them but ‘Taggy Matcher’ is the best name for a band/artist I’ve heard in a while.

The samples on the site you posted are really good, dude’s seemless in his approach.

Yeah it is a great name. Obviously big fans of the old bag Maggy.

True true green death…I scored the Nas one he did (fell in love) then had trouble finding the others…until Juno Records site where I bought the whole lot!
