T.V.Mind mix on Absolute Sampler/DVD help?

This doesn’t really warrant it’s own thread, but I thought I’d inform you all that I picked up the Absolute cassette sampler recently, and my hopes for new “undiscovered” Revco were dashed. It’s an awesome tape, featuring Revco, Fini Tribe, Current 93, etc.
Anyway, what caught my eye is that the Revco song is called “T.V. Mind (It’s in My Brain Version).” Unfortunately, all it is is the “Alt. Mix” featured on the 2004 Ryko re-release, but I guess they forgot what they had called it! Since the discography here lists the tape as “more info needed,” there you have it - feel free to update the page, or hit me up for any of the particulars.
It was still a great purchase at four bucks, though, as I’m getting turned on to “new” (new as in 1989) bands I hadn’t heard…anyone heard of “In the Nursery?” I dig that one. Anyway, sorry. I was hoping to have a great new song of the week for you guys, from the “real” Revco, no less. I will be ripping that concert from 1/28/90 to .avi pretty soon, though, if anyone wants to help out with putting in some work towards making a DVD to share. You know where I’ll be!

Hey, I stumbled upon that cassette back in '89, and bought it because I saw Click Click and RevCo on it. Great sampler - you gotta love the song “I Am A Bunny” by the Dave Howard Singers. My favorite song from that tape is “The Corpse (Remix)” by Pink Industry. I was fascinated by that song for years, and never could find any music by that band until the Napster era arrived. I have since managed to collect 99% of Pink Industry’s music, and they’re easily one of my favorite obscure bands from the '80s. Definitely a hidden gem of a band.

The Absolute sampler was released on CD in the early '90s. Don’t know how many were pressed, but I’ve seen at least two copies in Phoenix (bought one of them). Scrounge around the compilation section at your local music store, or even look in “A” for it.

Yeah, a junkie “friend” of mine has it. I had already ordered the tape online when I was at his place and saw the damn cd on the floor…didn’t occur to me to check if I’d heard the Revco song, though…and yeah, I’m really digging the Pink Industry tune, as well. I’ll have to check around on Souldseek for some other songs.

thanks for the info. i was betting that there was no more alternative tracks of “real” revco to find. :frowning:

Let me know when you’re on Soulseek, and I’ll make sure to hook you up with my Pink Industry collection. You’ll get all three complete albums, plus a ton of mixes, b-sides, and half of their first EP. I’m missing the other half, plus some amazing Peel Sessions they recorded around '83-'84. I have a short clip of one the Peel Sessions, and it sounds pretty awesome. You can PM or email me if you want to get the hook-up.

Cheers,

RevCo concert to .avi… whats the tracklist for that one? Is that the reznor one? i cant remember the dates… what kind of .avi would u rip it too? Don’t say divx! :stuck_out_tongue: heh.
A dvd would definately be cool, ahhh… I want a new computer, then I could convert the 84-87 shows as well to put on there… although there would have to be better quality copies out there.

Now wait a sec… The Rykodisc TV Mind remix is 4:26 - the same length as the remix on the Stainless Steel Providers single. But the sometimes inaccurate complete discography lists the Absolute remix as 6:00 or so long. So either the discography is wrong, or the Absolute remix is different.

What kind of music is Pink Industry?

Pink Industry is interesting…just from the one song, it’s kind of gothed-out, floaty synth music with a woman singing in this ethereal voice…kinda like the Cocteau Twins wicked little sister, but I’ll have to hear more!
The cassette I have clocks in TV Mind at around four minutes according to my watch - maybe the dude with the CD could help out with the runtimes, but I’m fairly certain it’s the same song.
The video is Ministry, not Revco. Sorry about that. It’s from Videophile Magazine’s recording of the show in Dallas on 1/28/90, featuring Connelly, Ogre, etc. Pro-shot with decent sound quality. This is actually my first VHS rip, so I’m not sure how I’ll do it…or when I’ll get the time really! I have the cables for my VCR and several different programs, so if there’s a preferred method for you guys let me know.

What kind of music is Pink Industry?

Gothic synth-music with effected guitars, solemn female vox, occasional samples and sax, and 808 drums with some splashes of industrial noise. Very dreary, but intriguing music. Not the most accessible stuff, but they manage to knock out the occasional catchy tune. The genealogy for the band members is Big In Japan > Pink Military > Pink Industry. I have some Pink Military stuff, too, but it’s a lot more weird, and not as good.

Hmmm sounds interesting minus the part about female vox…

I like Bjork and that kind of stuff but I can’t stand females trying to sing in “dark” or “heavy” music. Just sounds corny as fuck (ex. Tycoon ruining “Bad Blood” with her shitty voice)

Listening to that song again, it may be more Bjork-like than I had previously described. It’s certainly nothing like Bad Blood; I know what you mean about that. Just very chill, kinda catchy, 80’s style singing…you know the type - where it’s obviously in English, but you have no idea what they’re saying? Believe me, the woman complements the sound, rather than bringing it down. This is definitely something I’d like to hear more of - I try to be on Soulseek 24/7, but with my ISP pulling a bunch of shit, it kind of blinks on and off. The president of Insight (my ISP) recently had to do a TV commercial in which he eats crow (not literally, of course, though that would have been appropriate), about the horrible standards of service they were providing. Anyway, I’m usually on (Christonabun), though I don’t sit here all day. I promise I’ll get back to you within a few hours at worst, though.

So either the discography is wrong, or the Absolute remix is different.

The discog is wrong. This is the same version as the remix on Stainless Steel Providers, as well as several other compilations including the Fight! Lp.

Wow, didn’t think I’d hear a mention of Pink Industry on here. They are indeed one of the obscure gems of the genre. I kept an eye out for material by them for years, but rarely found anything. I had something of theirs on vinyl once, but traded it for an offer I couldn’t refuse to someone who was even more into them than I was. I still have at least one other compilation (“The Zulu Compilation”) with one of their tracks on vinyl, and a few mp3s.

tenohtwo, I gotta hook up with you for some of that other stuff you have.
