I’ve been a casual fan of TISM for a while now, just started to really get into them now, and I cannot locate any of their albums anywhere. This is more directed at the Aussies on here as I am not sure how far TISM’s popularity reached outside of Aus/NZ - but anyone got any pre-loved TISM they want to part with?
This probably should have been in the other section but I’m done now.
Especially considering I believe some of the main members of the band turned out to be teachers…
But really I imagine that having a member of TISM as your teacher would surely be a beneficial thing, they seem pretty intelligent in interviews etc… you wouldn’t turn out like one of those braindeads that go around punching on for no reason… or maybe I’m wrong and you would… pah… suppose teachers dont influence you that much… otherwise I’d feel sorry for smurfs students (I kid, I kid [angelic] )
Yeah… heh… are there no Ministry fans anywhere else in AUS? Well there must be considering their 2006 tour sold out… but according to Al they cancelled because no-one would “pony up the cash” for them? Go figure.
But indeed, TISM are the shiznit, sucks I never got to see them… the one chance I had (earthcore) I ended up not wanting to go because I thought the rest of the lineup was crap. Oh well, ROOT! have a new album coming out next week so I assume they will tour again… not quite TISM but closer than nothing lol.
root looks fair shnappy… perhaps will see you at the next gig… i dunno, sort of not keen on checkin em out coz i expect too much of em, to match tism that is…
If the Chillis don’t like 'em then I do. [:P] Get a bit of a PWEI vibe off of these guys, good stuff.
Me too, I can see why they wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy ironic humor in music sometimes.
Are any of you guys here into the Australian post-punk scene from the 70s-80s? I’ve been listening for awhile to stuff off the M Squared and Terse Tapes labels and others from way back when. Bands like Scattered Order, Celibate Rifles, The Slugfuckers, The Wet Taxis, Laughing Clowns, Makers of the Dead Travel Fast, and of course Severed Heads who are probably my favorite all time band. It was to me a scene that was just as exciting as those in England and America at the same time.

I’m from Melbourne too.
I used to have a Laughing Clowns 7" and some Severed Head 7"s many years ago but I think I sold them to a guy who was starting up a record store in the early 90s. Does take me back to the good ol’ days.
There was a really cool post punk industrial Melbourne band called ‘No’ who I was into for a few years. Not sure what happened to them. It’s been at least 15 years since I last listened to any of that stuff.
Anybody in the mood for a trip down memory lane should check out Phil Turnbull’s site Nonightsweats. It has a plethora of info on the Sydney post-punk bands and info on where to get reissues/comps.
Vinyl on Demand a german label puts out these exquisite LP box sets for many great bands, but recently have been exploring the Australian scene. They have one for SPK, Severed Heads, and an M Squared one that just came out recently. Expensive but worthwhile.
I’m wrapt someone brought up Mark of Cain… fuck, Ill At Ease was a great album back in the day…
That album is in my top 10.
Mark Of Cain’s “Ill At Ease” is simply superb. Rock doesn’t get any badder than that. The riffs are some of the heaviest around. I mean listen to tracks like “You Let Me Down”, “Pointman” and “Tell Me” and try not to cream your pants! Any time I play that album to folk they go bananas. Then they usually yell “wow Henry Rollins produced it”…I then have to chop them down to size by telling them he basically just hit the record button in the studio… so calm the fuck down. That album is basically Mark Of Cain live in the studio.
I was lucky enough to see Mark Of Cain live on New Years Eve 96-97 @ Annandale Hotel in Sydney and fuck me they absolutely blew shit up. So fucking tight and the hum of the riffs were fantastic. I mean John & Kim Scott have been playing guitar and bass together forever and it really does show when you see them live.
Justin Broadrick is a big Mark Of Cain fan and even remixed “You Let Me Down” on the Mark Of Cain Rock’n’Roll Remix album. That remix was a monster by the way…just when you thought that song couldn’t get any more bad-ass Justin comes along and rapes it!
I’ve posted numerous threads about Mark Of Cain all over the place and ALWAYS get no replies. Funnily enough I posted one on the Saul Williams board a few years back and some random in the States piped up about how kick-ass they were?!
Seriously though EVERYONE here should own a copy of The Mark Of Cain’s “Ill At Ease”.
A few other Aussie bands I saw around that time that were interesting were Discordia and Alchemist. The dude from Discordia went and formed another pretty cool band called Dreadnought. Alchemist were a weird Death/Prog/Folk type of band from what I remember seeing. Discordia/Dreadnought were pretty much Industrial Metal.
