Reddit is locked down in support of BLM so I can’t join the synth community to ask them.
Do any of you guys have experience with Sequencers and “note drifting”. I’m not even sure i’m using the right term, maybe that’s why i’m not finding anything in google.
My set-up. Korg monologue (sequencer) (via MIDI cable) to a Model-D. When I run the sequencer on my Korg to control the Model D, I get some weird variations of notes. It seems to just be by cents, not even a full step.
Something tells me it’s going to be my Model D. Not sure. Any direction is appreciated.
I don’t have a ton of experience with modular style sequencers (I usually use workstation synths or my DAW’s MIDI channels)
Something to look for-if the slave device’s patch has attack/decay ratio’s greater than what’s being generated by the master, you may get elongated notes or some mush pot of randomness. Not sure if it’s the exact issue you’re having, but the envelope duration on the slave patch should match the type of notes in the sequence (quarters, eights, etc).
More than happy to help troubleshoot, it could be a learning experience for me as well.
So to clarify, the pitch is drifting, not the time?
This is definitely a Model D issue, being that it generates pitches in true analog. Does it happen if you turn off all but one oscillator and open all the envelopes (no filter/full volume)?
Thanks for the reply. I figured it out! Man, i feel dumb. But, im sharing nonetheless.
Turns out I had Modulation enabled on the Model D - when I actually thought it was off! On the Model D, there is no OFF for modulation. So I had the rate turned to ZERO, but my Modulation depth was set to 6! It was still modulating, just real real real slow! I turned the depth to zero and the rate to ZERO no more noting weirdness.
Man, I’m dumb. I suppose this is why people are reluctant to post questions. Fuck it.
Ha, not dumb at all. That is a common mistake with the Minimoog-style designs. There is no binary on/off switch for envelopes and modulators. The “0” setting for depth is “off.”
Keep posting questions. I have a Moog Voyager sitting here and the signal path is basically the same.
I’m legit now fellas. It’s a Subsequent 25. I traded a MOOG Mother-32 sequencer and $200 for it. They came out three months ago, the serial number is 3 digits. Only thing is I bought it from a hippy dude and it smells like Patchouli.
