SXSW sightings

gerda: Is Paul really that tall? The last time I saw him I had a couple of sheets I put in the wind at that point but I didn’t know if we were the same height. I am 6’2’’.

Interesting. Are ya’ll part owners of Maleko or something? Seems like pricey pedals. For the elite, I guess? I tried to check out some of the manuals from the website but got 404 errors so you might want to put a bug in the webmaster’s ear to fix it. I think it would be fun to work in a pedal design shop.

Yeah I was moving the site over to a new machine so all is good now.

Paul is one of the owners of Malekko. And their pedals are used by everyone who is anyone in the industry because they produce awesome sound. A competitor he met at SXSW was gushing that the products were so good. And Carmangary, they are not pricey at all. The quality is extraordinary and the price is in line if not cheaper than the competition.
And no Paul is NOT 10 feet tall. He’s boundless. (6’4", for the record).

For all of you Pink Anvil fans. Maybe somefin’. don’t know.Keep you posted. He hasn’t seen Max in a couple of years. They do keep in touch.

This part excited me! I am a big fan of Pink Anvil. I actually traded Max Brody for a copy of the unreleased second album ‘New Year’s Eve Party’ years ago and to my knowledge I’m one of the few who’ve even heard it.

Can you ask Paul if they plan to release ‘New Year’s Eve Party’ officially? Also will there be more material recorded? Some members of this board have asked me to share ‘New Year’s Eve Party’ with everyone online.

I asked Brody on myspace but at that point he stopped getting back to me…

Pink Anvil material may be released. Don’t know. It’s up to those guys, who both have their hands full. But New Year’s show will in fact have an official release. And don’t ask me for a date.

January 8 would be divine.

maybe they should rename it “birthday Party”

I actually had the PRIVILEGE of seeing the Birthday Party (not to get on a different track or anything) on their first American tour. In New York. In a crappy bar with Carol Blank. We were in town for a tradeshow. That rockshow, whilst they played to six people including us, is in my top five rockshows of all time. They kicked ass to a crowd of six like they were performing to a crowd of 20,000. ruled.
and ixnay on the renaming of the pink anvil recordings, btw.

I was being silly based on you suggesting they release it on your bday… but mums the word from now on.

I saw Grinderman a couple of months ago - Nick Cave STILL kicks ass. That guy hasn’t lost a beat in 25 years.

Is that you gerda, on the cover to my chicks and speed record?

If you and Paul liked that, you would’ve loved this other Aussie band called Venom P. Stinger… different sound, but same guts. Half that band went onto form the Dirty Three. Who I like also.

The girl on the cover of Chicks and Speed is Gunner’s fave rave–Judy Pokonosky. Half Polish. Half Lebanese.
