Anyone see this doc they have been showing on Showtime recently about the Sunset Strip…really cool doc filled with storytelling, rare archival footage, concert footage, cool interviews, animation and cool music…it’s got a lot of the usual documentary participants like Slash,Alice Cooper,Ozzy, etc…but it also has a bunch of oddballers like Kim Fowley,Kenneth Anger,Lou Adler,Micky Rourke etc…some big movie stars also like J Depp,Keanu Reeves and so on…
They talk with mob guys etc…it’s areally cool history…from mob activity, the jazz scene with Hugh Hefner and Sammy Davis, old time movie stars, burlesque stars, the great stand up comedy from the strip, the glam band era,the Chateau Marmont, the Hyatt House and on and on…loads of stuff…
Check it out if you are interested…really well done…and make sure you stay for the animation while the credits run…amazing stuff…
One note:Keanu doesn’t sound like Keanu anymore…that whole dopey brain dead Point Break affect is gone…
Sounds great, i’ve always been interested in the history and sleazy underbelly of LA. Is the show just called “Sunset Strip”?
I want to see a documentary about what was under the underbelly - the whole hippie/biker/druggie/occult scene from the late '60s that Manson and his circle was involved with.
Where’s that flick?

They could base it on Neil Young’s song Revolution Blues.

Well, make sure to also seek out “Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years”. It’s still not ever come out on DVD (some bullcrap licensing dispute or something), but it occasionally gets shown on VH1 type channels and it also appears from time to time on YouTube until the fun police hears there’s something fun on the internet and pulls it off to save us all from accidental fun exposure.

Yeah,I remember 10 years ago Spheeris said that it was about to come out…she even made some website and was going to put all 3 of them out in one package or whatever…at the time I read that I didn’t even know there was a third one…it looked totally unappealing and I had no interest in it…the first one is a nice punk snap shot but yeah Part 2 is the full blown cheese classic…some truly amazing moments in that flick…

i’ve got boots of all three (and the torrents are pretty easy to find, if you just wanna watch them) and yeah, the second one is a SILLY thing. but i actually REALLY liked the third one. maybe its because i have always been interested in crustpunk, or maybe its because i know/usedtolivewith a buncha train-hopper crust kids, but the third one is really interesting. suffers from low quality transfer, but that isnt so much the movie’s fault…
Hmmm, really…maybe the trailer I saw didn’t peak my interest…I’ll have to check out Part 3…what year was that one made?
Around '98, apparently, and it was filmed mostly in '96. I wouldn’t mind checking it out if it ever came out. It was the crusty homeless punks, and interestingly, Penelope fell in love with one of the crusties and actually had a relationship with him, so there was a cool and weird back story too. I remember reading about it all and she was talking about “getting too close to the subject matter” and so forth.
If they ever do release it on DVD I hope they also (maybe as extras) get into that. The interview/ article I read way back was pretty interesting.
Gutter punks. Uggh. I mostly hate them. Lazy ass creeps sitting on the sidewalk begging for change and holding their homemade “We need beer” signs, and looking so smug as if they’re the first ones to do that. Then they get all pissed off and mutter “Yuppie fag” or “fascist” or something when you refuse them change. I have no interest in financing someone who doesn’t even have enough initiative in life to bathe every once in a while.
They’re such retards, too. Always muttering about “the system” or “despising society” or hating corporations or some type of foolishness. They’re version of Anarchy is a DIY Welfare System. Don’t talk smack about us polished corporate fags if you’re gonna beg us for spare change to finance your idiotic smelly lifestyle.
Many of the so-called gutter punks are fake ass posers anyway . . . getting their parents to drive them over in their BMW’s to Haight/Ashbury so they can sit down and be worthless all day until it’s time to go home.
Haha yeah…I think we had a thread about this at one point…there are some great moments in there…the dude taking the picture with the pregnant chick with her Korn hair do and her gnarly clit hanging out while the guy behind her “philosophisez” on life…priceless…
