So, I’ve recently gone into a “metalcore” moment and want to find out more bands along the lines of what I’m listening to. Specifically, I want bands that sound like :
Emmure
Botch
Norma Jean
Black Dhalia Murder
Dillenger Escape Plan
etc, so I’ve started checking out these :
Acacia Strain
From The Pawn
August Burns Red
Burn Down Rome
Ligeia
Misery Signals
Job For A Cowboy
Nights Like These
My Bitter End
Recon
On Broken Wings
As Hope Dies
Endwell
From A Second Story Window
Warfix
Through The Eyes Of The Dead
Anyone got any suggestions of other bands along these lines that I might be interested in?
Thanks and Peace!
Krowe
P.S. I’d still like more submissions for the tablature pages if anyone has any to throw in there. Thanks for the help that has been given so far!

You have all this and you need more?
p.s I have never heard of ‘metalcore’ or most of these bands you have mentioned. That’s probably because I am 35 years old and spend most of my relaxation time listening to Eno and reading Genet or Tolstoy and not jumping around my bedroom knocking stuff over while playing air guitar on a tennis racket. I also do not have any piercings (visible or otherwise), no tatts, nor do I own any item of clothing with the words Good Charlotte emblazened across it. I do however own several Napalm Death cds - so can lay claim to some degree of ‘hardness’.
Sorry, where was I…um, no I can’t recommend anything. Ask GrmpySmrf, he’ll know what to do.
Ah, Peligro… I knew I could count on you to give me absolutely NOTHING to work with, LOL. Yes, I need more as most of these bands that I have mentioned only have one or two albums or EP’s out and generally the albums only run for 30 minutes so they are very short. I on the other hand DO have tatooes, piercings (visible and non), jump around my room wildly flailing on a REAL guitar and so on. I DO NOT own anything that says Good Charlotte and would rather stick my finger in a light socket while connecting myself to a much larger circuit before I do own anything like that though. And I’m 29, so I guess I’m still “young” enough to prance around like an idiot to this stuff. I’ll wait… eventually someone here will show up that listens to this stuff.
And no. I kicked all my other habits but smoking. It’s next on the list to go.
Peligro, you’re such a cock. Really.
Is it because you are from Melbourne that makes you a self-righteous fuck wit?
Everything that spews forth from you is so horrible painful to read.
Can anyone say has been?
Sorry I have nothing to suggest he just really pissed me off.

with all due respect, but these bands are not metalcore. they were referred to as ‘math-core’ when they first turned on their flamethrower of sonic mayhem. metalcore, as far as my understanding was so far, refers more to chugga chugga influenced stuff like Hatebreed, visions of disorder, earth crisis and similar neanderthalian crimes.
but to answer the question. did you check out these yet?
deadguy
unsane
today is the day
coalesce (give them rope CD only)
kiss it goodbye
rorschach
trap them
perth express
systral
moerser
chispa
my hero died today
reversal of man
combat wounded veteran

pps Have you given up smoking yet?
dear mr.P
it turns out I am even older than you. I might not be as sharp of a knife as you consider yourself but at least I can claim to have listened to some of said artists. btw by doing so I gained the insight that these artists are far from harvesting any neanderthalian sound pollution fields, which I think you would like to imply with your post. would you have actually listened to it yourself you might have come to the conclusion that this music is not suitable to jump up and down to through a teen dorm. It targets the brain rather than arms and legs.

Stangely, amongst the impressive lists that you guys already made, Converge is not mentioned even once, and this is, to me, the number one band one needs to listen to in the metalcore/mathcore/noisecore/whatever scene.
Well worth it, particularly their more recent albums.
Funny enough I purposely didn’t list Converge. I understand and respect that a lot of people are into them and I see how their music is very complex and ‘skilled’. It’s just that I think their vocals are terribly weak. Saw them once in 1998 and never got to understand why it was them that kind of broke through…
Interesting. If you haven’t heard any converge after 1998, it might be a good idea to check out Jane Doe, You Fail Me and No Heroes. I think the vocals were a little crude before these albums, although you might disagree. Personally, I dont find his vocals weak at all, although it seems to me that they are an example of something that really polarises people. You either hate them or love them. I really dig the ridiculous white noise approach to vocals that he has, although I can relate to not being able to stand them as well, since it took me a while to get used to them.
One song that must be heard is “Grim Heart / Black Rose”. Seriously, it is excellent.
I’d second Converge, especially “Jane Doe” the album is perfect from start to finish. The vocals are definitely an acquired taste and not for everybody but Im a fan. I’d also reccomend giving Genghis Tron’s “Dead Mountain Mouth” a listen, definitely from the school of Converge but with some interesting keyboard stuff. Today is the Day are great too, the “Willpower” album is my favorite of the bunch.
Once you can get past the Christian undertones (which are decidedly weak as is), they’ve got some pretty cool stuff. Probably the only metalcore band I listen to.
The “Beginning of the End” EP and their debut album “They Want You Silent” are fucking great. Their sophomore release, though, was a bit disappointing to me, but you might dig it.
Glassjaw
are they metalcore? god who knows what all these fucking sub-genres are…
just get the first glassjaw “everything you ever wanted to know about silence” and listen to siberian kiss… the second track… a beautiful song about love and obsession… and then scare all your female friends away
I’ve never heard of Metalcore or math core or WETF it is. I can tell you the last metal album I bought was Aman Amarth -With Oden on our side. Good album it’s all about vikings and stuff! but I bought that like a year ago and it got play for about 3-4 months but now it sits and collects dust.
As far as Eye Hate god, I have In the name of the suffering, which got played a total of Half a dozen times and each time the album got progressively worse, and I have often times comtemplated selling it to Amoeba, But for some reason it always makes the cut and I keep it even though I haven’t listened to it for almost 13 years. The ONLY redeeming track it has is, I think, Track 4 with all of ther Charlie Manson samples.

2 curiosities from the ‘metalcore’ world:
Zao - The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here
Interesting because the band is usually boring Christian shit but this album has some cool Husker Du influences.
Cryptopsy - The Unspoken King
The band was known for being boring ultra-brutal death metal for their entire career but for some reason decided to become Dillinger-lite on the latest album, together with breakdowns, whiny clean vocals in the choruses etc. Worth hearing since its a curiosity.

and they made some track making fun of all the people complaining that they “went emo”

I’ve got the whole Zao catalogue since they started. Love 'em. I don’t find it boring. It sounds to me like the band that practiced in the same space my old band did (Mortal Treason - who funny enough wound up getting on with Solid State, the same label as Zao for awhile). But I’ll check out the Cryptopsy though. Sounds interesting enough although I’m not bit on the Dillenger style of math/metalcore.
Thanks for the other suggestions peeps. Will check them all out.
