I like Tool because their music reminds me of symphonies. Lots of changes and variations.
most of the time (95%) Tool song stays in D minor. ony changes i’d attribute to their stuff is maybe time signatures. used to like tool alot but lately they just sorft of bore me, i don’t even know what it is.
danny carey is great though. also like that justin chancellor achieves with a bass guitar and tons of effects, neat sounds.

I suppose what I like is the change in time signatures, you’re right. I listen to Tool Radio on Pandora a lot while I work and have gotten to hear a lot of stuff I’ve never heard before on there. I really like the remix “Counting bodies like sheep to the sound if the war drum”. But I HATE their version of Lennon’s “Imagine”. Ugh
I am suprised how similar Chevlle sounds to Tool.
I am suprised how similar Chevlle sounds to Tool.
It’s intentional.
For the record, you’re alright in my book. I consider a lot of these guys friends, but I have also always had friends in my life that I considered to be complete chuckleheads on any given topic. I’m not even really sure what this is all REALLY about in the first place, but I always thought you at least had interesting things to say and was kinda glad to see you pop back in. Talking shit is the dominant pastime on this board, so you can’t really be surprised about it, but this go round, wow… that’s something else. Some real special moments here, I hope everybody is proud. Not pointing fingers at anybody here, and obviously the antagonism, once it got rolling, went both ways, but come on guys, this shit is kinda embarrassing. Where did all the grown ups go?
If you’re ever in St. Louis, hit me up and we’ll have a drink and I will tell you some cool places to go. I’ve made this offer previously to grumpy, gunnar, Mooney, and a few others. Honestly, the offer’s probably good for just about everybody on the board. But just wanted to extend it to you as well.
Everytime we are in mercury retrograde this forum turns into a shitstorm. I have no problem with Mishella but don’t like big forum fights whoever they involve.

I guess I have only really heard “The Red” and that doesn’t doesn’t have the Tool sound but Chevell is on Pandora a lot and that’s where I noticed. So you think they are intentionally trying to sound similar? Kinda like Godsmack and Alice in Chains huh?
I agree that the shit got really thick here this time. It happens every time I post here. That is why I made this thread, so that I wasn’t stepping on any toes. If someone doesn’t like me or want to hear what I have to say, they don’t have to read my thread. It’s also why I really stopped stopped fighting back. It’s what they wanted. I just kept agreeing with everything they said. Hopefully it is over and they will leave me alone now.

FYI: That’s A Perfect Circle.

Oh I knew “Counting Bodies…” was APC but I didn’t know “Imagine” was. Thanks. They sound so similar most of the time. Never understood why bands did “side projects” that sound just like their main band.

I dislike forum fights too. Most of the time I will just leave but I didn’t want them to have the satisfaction of chasing me away this time. It’s quiet now but I’m sure something big is coming.
This is prongs. Everyone takes flak for something or another every now and again. It’s just part of the happy little inbred family we are.
Lol, someone needs to call DCF of some of the members of your family here.
BTW, I like the links in your footer. I volunteer at the no kill shelter where I live and we have two rescue cats.

I rather like Tool. Yeah, most of their stuff is in D but it tracks well and Adam has a great tone. Danny is simply incomparable and is worth listening to alone.
I know Adam plays an old silverburst Gibson Les Paul. A friend has a similar silverburst and the finish does give a slightly different tone. My bud also has a black Gibson LP that’s otherwise identical setup wise and playing them back to back on the same amp/same tuning etc. the tone difference is small but noticeable.[/reply]
You can always tell tell it’s them. They have such a recognizable sound. I think Maynard has a beautiful voice. He seems like a bit of an arrogant dick in person but I love to hear him sing. He was here not too long ago supporting his wine and we read that to meet him, you had to buy a bottle of his wine and the cheapest was like $100 bucks. You weren’t allowed to shake his hand either. It was like stand perfectly still, present bottle, obtain signature, step to the left or NO WINE FOR YOU.
you want him to fuck ur ass?

not to cloud in on ya here, but i was in St. Louis a while ago on a road trip i was taking.
spend a day or so in the city, just walked around listening to the area and such. i actually really dug it. it was summer, but a little overcast, so it ended up being really nice. i actually enjoyed my time there, and it is part of the setting for a project i just got out. i even took the cover photo there!
also yes, Chevelle sounds a lot like Tool.
I went to St. Louis once but all we did was tool around abandoned buildings.

Thanks for the invitation. That’s nice of you! I’ve never been to St. Louis. Actually, I haven’t been many places in the US except for up and down the East coast. Are you having really bad weather up there right now?

There’s been a lot more snow this season than most years recently, but it’s not too bad. Our weather is kind of notorious for being really cold in the winter, really hot (and even worse, super humid) in the summer, and it can swing wildly back and forth. 60 degree changes of temperature in a single day happens a few times a year. We get amazing thunderstorms too. So yeah, there HAS been weather here lately, but nothing we can’t cope with. One of our favorite things to fo here is laugh at the southerners freaking out about a little dusting of snow, but at the same time we don’t typically get foot upon foot of snow like they do in Colorado, and though it gets pretty fucking cold here, it’s not as absolutely miserable as Chicago can be. I swear I am never going THERE again before May or after September.
STL has a lot of cool stuff going for it, but still kind of despises itself. Municipal inferiority complex.

At least you have weather changes. Here it’s hot, really hot, cool and then hot again. I’ve only seen snow once and while it was really pretty, I’m not sure I could live in it. We were all YAY SNOW and then an hour later we were all My nose is running, my lips are chapped, ewwww let’s go inside.
It’s funny you guys can tell who the southerners by their reaction to snow. We can always tell the northerners by their really bad sunburns. Lol
It’s not so much mocking the southern transplants in our midst, it’s really just one of the few opportunities we get to look down at other cities, like when Austin shut down over 1/4" of snow, that kind of shit. Everybody freaks out because they get an inch and we get 5-6 inches and we’re at work in the morning.
My kids actually had to wear long pants to school today! It’s 57 right now. Coldest winter we have had in a really long time.

Mishella, I’m a live and let live person.
DB, I’ll be in town 22-27 April. If you are free, the evening of the 22nd works best for me as I will have to work very long hours the other days.
I experienced the amazing thunderstorm of late April 2012 that had the huge hailstones and the man over by the ballpark who was struck and killed by lightning. I was watching the live webcast of the event taking place in the EJ Dome from my hotel room when I head the Dome announcer tell everyone to stay in their seats due to very severe weather. I looked out the window to see hailstones a little larger than golf balls bounce off the roof and hit my window. Just across the river, the hailstones were the size of softballs/grapefruit and shattered several car windows.
Agreed. Chicago has no happy medium. I’ve been there when it was over 100 deg. (June/July) and when it was gone with the wind freezing cold (April and October). However, I think I could live there.
