So recently I’ve been addicted to buying CDs off amazing from second hand sellers, because of this I’ve scored a lot of CDs and DVDs for really cheap. I got a brand new copy of Billy Idol’s “Cyberpunk” from it’s original first print in 1993 for only 1 cent, plus shipping.
So anyways to the point, recently I bought Skinny Puppy’s “The Process” as I’m a fan of the new SP sound and had heard that this album was a transitory piece (Amnesia’s always been a favorite). So a few days ago the CD arrived, the envelope it was in looked as if a car ran over it, there was a small tear in the package and the plastic package within the envelope that held the CD. But these holes were definitely not big enough for the CD to come out of. I didn’t really think of it and just opened up the package. I find a smashed jewel case with bits of plastic everywhere, I’ve received damaged Jewel cases before, but never to these degree. I pried open the case, and grabbed the booklet (which was in pretty good condition) and opened it, only to have this little slip of paper that has “January” and a phone number written right below it, a smaller phone number on the paper, and just some random time. The other side of the piece of paper said “Sharon Ellison” and before I could even finish reading everything on the piece of paper and another glossy piece of paper slipped out face down. I turned it around and it’s a “Glamour Shot” of some random woman that is from 1995.
Yeah… I was at a loss of words. I’m assuming someone had bought the album, and somehow that stuff slipped in there accidentally or intentionally and was sold to a record store, then somehow found its way to an Amazon seller.
The CD and booklet were find and the inner piece of paper had a small rip in it. Needless to say I grabbed a jewel case from some Christian compilation CD I was given for free at my University and used it for my SP CD. Looks pretty damn good now.
And yes, I left the seller an interesting feedback story.

When I read this I pictured the glamor shot of that girl Napoleon Dynamite carried around.
In my youth, I hid a small baggie of a controlled substance under the tray in a CD case and subsequently lost track of the CD. A bunch of the CDs were sold and it never came up again so I’m pretty sure someone ended up with a little something extra. It wasn’t The Process, don’t bother checking.
When I bought my copy of Nitzer Ebb’s Showtime, there was a blank signed check folded inside the liner notes. I’m a very honest guy, so it was discarded.
I received a non-related cd inside a digipack in a multi-lot of used cd’s I purchased. Someone probably took it out of their disc player and grabbed the closest case they could find.
I have also received a couple of used discs that had questionable substances stuck on them.
Best surprise purchase I ever received was when I ordered a copy of the Pixies “Doolittle.” Along with the album, the seller included a CD with mp3s of the entire discography from The Clash. Totally unexpected, but very welcome.
good story. I used to have a wallet full of photos I had found in my travels, all of which were passport photo size or smaller. It was a sweet collection, one was of a huge man with a huge mustache, a tartan shirt and a vacant stare, kind of a charles manson lookalike. Being a passport photo, it had his full name written on the back. Wish I could remember it, such an object gives a unique window into a stranger’s life. Another was taken in a photo booth and had a really freaky looking mother and child. It was a surreal little pile of pictures, unfortunately at that time I was losing a wallet once a year whilst drunk in a cab. I just hope that whoever found it appreciated the collection
