Steven Wilson

[url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcupine_Tree”]Porcupine Tree ( Started around 1987) has become one of my favorite bands. Steven Wilson in particular. His latest release is totally growing on me. [url “http://stevenwilsonhq.com/sw/hand-cannot-erase-uk-tour-update-from-sw/”]Hand. Cannot. Erase.
I was introduced to PT by Alex Lifeson guesting on a track from 2007…yes Rush. So in 2007 the journey began. Once “The Incident” came out in 09’, I was hooked. These two releases are epic for sure. I mention the release here: [url “http://www.prongs.org/minfiles/forum/gforum.cgi?post=41248;search_string=Porcupine%20Tree%20;#41248”]http://www.prongs.org/minfiles/forum/gforum.cgi?post=41248;search_string=Porcupine%20Tree%20;#41248

Anyway fast forward to 2015 and his fourth solo release (Porcupine Tree is on hiatus) is about Joyce Vincent…[url “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Vincent”]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Vincent Strange event for sure!

His music is prog/melancholy (he releases Blu-ray formats for the best experience) but I think all of us can relate to melancholy at some point.

I’m really enjoying the new one and going to see him at the end of May. [:)]

Check him out!!!

I’ve figured out that I like concept cd’s…

Huge Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson fan here…seen him live in many different incarnations…get the PT-Anesthetize dvd if you haven’t already…

Have you heard his other projects(No-Man,Blackfield and Bass Communion)?

I’ve starting to check them out…different styles and usually his music takes a few listens so it’s a work in progress. Any specific side projects you like?

I love all of it…

Blackfield is his collab with Israeli pop star Aviv Geffen…it’s dark melancholic pop at its finest…I would only recommend 1 and 2…Welcome to my DNA and 4 have very little contribution from SW and in my opinion they suffer because of it…

Bass Communion is definitely on the more ambient/experimental side of things but is immense work…big fan of this stuff…

No-Man is more of Tim Bowness’ thing…SW is the second in command here but his contribution are weighty…lovely music that is hard to describe…

There is also SW 12" cover versions that were all recently complied on a single cd…not my favorite stuff of his but still some nice work…

There is also a comp of his electronic work that is reall good…

But all Porcupine Tree is essential…(especially from Signify forward) and all 4 SW solo works are essential as well…the man is probably my favorite living musician and you are correct in that it takes some repeated listens to truly get it…but once you do look out…expansive music to say the least…

and as I said before the Anhestitize Blu-ray is a must have…PT at the height of their powers…
