All of the Al bashing aside,…
This entry takes me back to a time when Al was almost a mythical figure to me. He rarely did interviews, never looked the same in two photos and practically hid from his fans. His interviews were sporadic at best along with the unpredicability of his answers.
Now Al is cartoonish…
I always thoght that Al would make an amazing subject for a biography one day.
I am extremely excited about this film.
The link didn’t work. Had to go to the home page and find it there. At least we now know when to expect this
Weird, the link worked earlier today. Oh well this one seems to work:
Strange…for some reason even when I watch early interviews of Al when he was “cool” I’m finding myself thinking he’s a douche? I guess the damage is finally done.
Maybe I’m not up on my current industry lingo, but what is a “stem”?

Me too!! What the hell is that?

Al will never be as cool as he was when we were 16 I guess. Looking back he’s always kind of had that rockstar douchebag mentality even though it leaned a little more post-punk/avante-garde back then.
And yeah, what the hell is a “stem”?
i believe its root tracks. so like, a drum track, a sample layer, a guitar track, so on and so forth…
So they’re giving away the multi-track files to Ministry songs?
Somebody needs to fill out their form and find out what it’s all about.
I think a stem may be a sample after looking at the steps for the contest
OK, it’s some kind of contest involving Paul as the judge, but as usual for stuff involving this film the details are murky.

I’m thinking they give you some samples, you write a song with them, Paul puts them on the Fix soundtrack.

Might be worth a shot…
I love that Paul seems to be prominently involved in this film.
I wonder if Al and Paul will both be present for the preview screening?
I am totally going to submit for this and I bet I’ll get on it.

Good luck, Homie!!
Fuck I wish I could contribute to this. All I can do is play drums and sing. No recording programs, no loops, no nothing. This makes me a sad panda. Good luck void
I’m not sure of the context, but ‘stem’ is phrase used by crack smokers refering to the pipe they use, I figure since al was on crack then maybe this will be helpfull

More sarcasm? or are you your own greatest fan?

Let me clarify what stems are. A song may have well over 100 individual tracks(more like 48 back in their day). A Mixer mixes all the instruments, vocals, samples, and sounds. They adjust all the levels and EQ, adding effects, etc. Often times at the final mix “Stems” are created for easy changes later or remixes Stems refer to stereo tracks of the mix elements, that when played all together pretty much equal the mixed song. an example of stems from a ministry song may include:
Lead Vocal Stem
Background Vocal Stem
Drum Stem
Bass Stem
Guitar Rhythm Stem
Guitar Lead Stem
Keyboards Stem
Samples Stem
That’s very basic. Some people make stems of even individual drum sounds, or several more keyboard and guitar stems with overlapping parts, or just individual parts they think they may want to change later. Hope that makes sense. FYI, al and paul used to mix there own music back in the day(as opposed to most artists or labels who hire a mixing engineer). They were very chaotic and not so organized and traditional, so I’m surprised stems even got made of any of those songs. Also, Stems were NOT very common back then.
Also, Trent has released several stems of his songs and enouraged fans to do their own remixes, etc. It is pretty cool hearing the individual parts and vocals
Ok, I just Downloaded the “Stems”. There are VERY cool, but I just want to clarify, these are NOT stems. These are more like mix elements. Stems All start at the same time, and play throughout the entirety of the song. i.e. if the song is 5 minutes, each stem is 5 minutes. Hence, allowing you the ability to play them all together and have the mixed song. If you’re confused or care, just check out some of the NIN stem sessions.
There are very cool for remixing, and should spawn some creative music and remixing, but as I suspected, stems probably don’t exist.
