Sphinctour DVD

Anyone else watch this dvd at least 3/7 times you get blitzed? I need more DVD’s. I’m fucked.

jesus christ, al and paul were so fucking badass together. pisses me off.

Music DVDs I watch when I’m drunk (usually at high volume):

The Cure - In Orange (VHS, until next year)
New Order - 511
Depeche Mode - 101
RevCo - YGDSOB (DVD-R)
Ministry - In Case (DVD-R)
Rush - A Show Of Hands
URGH! A Music War (Excellent DVD-R that I purchased online. Expensive, but it’ll never see the light of day on an official DVD)

1002

i love sphinctour dvd. al looks so wasted and sometimes totally fucked up (like when he sings “the fall”). awesome shit. and compared to “in case”, this is actually enjoyable and most of all watchable.

too bad they didn’t release any more live releases, although i don’t think that anything post 2004 is actually interesting.

Absolutely, I used to do it all the time. Its perfect drunken material. I havent watched it in a while so in the next week or so if Im coming home from a session I will definitely pop in Sphinctour and “relax”. Yeah Al was wreckage during the performances but ya know what (not to glorify drugs but I guess it does in a way) he was a cool fucker then. Well at least it seemed that way. I remember seeing it first when it came out, I was 16 at the time and still big into having musicians as some one to look up to, not that I wanted to be fucked on smack like himself but he was still able to write and play this cool fucking music. And Al and Paul were fucking cool together, the best duo ive seen. Of course, come 2004, the whole “Al is a cool fucker” thing began to unravel big time to the point of today where I wouldn’t even pay €30 to go see the last gig ever by one of the most important bands ive been familiar with. But, thats how it plays out. At least we still have Jesu.

The CD version is one of my favorite Ministry discs ever, and I’ve been meaning to pick up the DVD for the longest time. Aren’t “So What,” “Stigmata,” and “Happy Dust” on there?

Yep ‘So What’ and ‘Stigmata’ are extra tracks/videos and ‘Happy Dust’ plays over the intro and outro. ‘Stigmata’ is kick ass on the dvd, 10 minutes long and never lets up. I much prefer the dvd to the cd not only because of the extra tracks but you get to see what it was like (presuming you didn’t see a show during Sphinctour). I must have watched the dvd >50 times between 2002-2003, many times drunk as a skunk. If you’re a fan of ‘Filth Pig’ and ‘Dark Side…’ do pick it up, its a rewarding experience.

Now I would kill to have a ‘Clitour’ cd/dvd release.

Just to show you how bad-ass that dvd is…Paul does the fingers!

Al hanging out with that old guy before Stigmata too is great. And when he yells out ‘just start the fucking loop’ or something like that. Awesome.

I love when he has the Leafs jersey on too, since I was at that show!

Ministry at it’s best. (drunken or sober…)

Or when they were waiting for Louis (who was taking a shit) to hurry up and get on stage.

Al: “Louis, come on!.. ah Jesus Christ!”

Doen’t Al kiss that old geezer on the forehead as well, or is that just the “he tastes like a peanut” Simpsons thing.

Or when Al is sprawled out on the ground out the back of a venue “I cant tell ya how good it feels to be here”.

was it tim leary? haven’t seen this in a while.

yes it was leary. he also hangs around the “crackin’ up” video.

My head hurts. I woke up on my couch at about 3:30am to the sound of Happy Dust and the blue screen menu.

Yeah its funny when stuff like that happens.

I once passsed out while listening to Lard; woke up a few hours later with ‘War Pimp Renaissance’ playing, I was delusional and couldn’t understand why the fuck some shitty Irish radio station was playing Lard at 4 in the morning then I realised that I had Pure Chewing Satisfaction on repeat. I was genuinely disturbed before I realised though.

lol. this was a great post. i got home with a hefty buzz myself last night - but just couldn’t bring myself to post anything.

my drunk DVDs are:

AC/DC - plug me in (disk 1)
Kissology vol 1 - 74 San Francisco show
skinny puppy - greater wrong of the right

i usually just woke up in the outlying areas of the recording studio thinking, “man, this rocks, or man this blows!”

If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?

all’s you need to know is no lies!

Yeah, I’d like to know that too.

Enough with the cryptic references already.

My guess is that it’s someone like …well I’m not sure exactly. It’s hard to tell with the ‘classic’ Ministry lineup as it was such a revolving door. I’m not even sure if half of them are still alive - apart from the obvious ones that are all accounted for.

Who was the guy that is credited with keyboards on the Psalm 69 album? Is that you?

Side note - I also ‘rediscovered’ Filth Pig in an unusual way. It had sat on my shelf for years gathering dust until one day some kid came over to buy a whole bunch of the cds that I had grown tired of (Front 242, Psychic TV etc etc). I was just about to hand him Filth Pig when I changed my mind and put it back on the shelf. Later that night I thought 'well…now that I’ve given it a second chance may as well give it another listen. So I smoked a bowl of hash, chilled out on a bean bag on the floor and let her rip. Blew my mind…listening to ‘Lava’ and ‘The Fall’ was like dying and going to a good kind of hell (y’know, the one with hookers and blow and hash and plenty of decent take out food) . It’s still a favourite of mine ten years later. The only Ministry album aside from Rape And Honey that I can be bothered with nowadays.

I sold my copy of Sphictour. It was ok but I’m just not THAT into live versions of songs that I love. It ruins it somehow.
