Spahn Dirge

I’m listening to the track “Spahn Dirge” on Skinny Puppy’s classic Rabies, and I’m struck by the fact that they never did anything like this track before or since. This shit really is seminal. I mean it’s like industrial-meets-jam band or something…shit that’s never been approached before as far as I know.

I always considered this one just a sonic mess, but I’m getting into it way more now. It makes me wish Al and SP had collaborated more frequently. I mean Rabies alone is on par with a lot of either band’s other material. What a fuckin masterpiece.

Anyone else dig this track?

Anyone want to correct me and say “no, this sounds like…anal cuntwhore” or whateevr…some hipster band…please do cause if there is anything else like this out there i’ll buy it in a second

I love that song.

I love Spahn Dirge too, but from what I’ve seen, it’s generally only Ministry fans who love it, or Rabies as a whole, most people who would primarily call themselves SP fans would say Rabies is the worst.

(Gotta love that “You had your fun in the sun, in 1971, but now it’s time to be free, in 1993”, don’t know what to make of it, if it’s just cheesy as hell, or the best goddamn line in a song ever)

great song - great album - great band.

p.s. - You do know that is a live song.

excellent freaky experimental trippy stuff. not SP’s best album, but the song is a great way to end it

Yeah, I got the album before I read any reviews, and after I listened to it through I thought I would check out what everyone else thought of it, was amazed when practically every “professional” review said “and skip that 16 minute load of bollocks at the end”

No, Anal Cuntwhore had much more of a post-modern Grind-diso Polka-core thing going.

LOL

And as far as that industrial-meets-jam thing goes, I believe Einsturzende Nebauten has some stuff like that. Unfortunately, I dont really remember what album it was on.

Anyone got Puppy Gristle? What does it sound like? Anything like this?

What’s this?

ANOTHER Skinny Puppy thread?

Hows about we set up a board just for these types of threads.

mr jiggy

All I can say is buy it. Immediately. Sounds nothing like “Spahn Dirge”…far more electronic and noise influenced…mostly drum machines, synths and bizarre noises.

But definately the best industrial jam ive ever heard. Good for the entire 40 minutes. Gen. P, Orridge uses some of his oldschool equipment from Throbbing Gristle to warp input from Dwayne Goettel and cEVIN key. Fucking outstanding.

voidhead sums it up completly. i’ve honestly never heard anything like it before. it’s a peice of history too, well worth owning for that matter alone. nice ogre vox added to it too.

if you have heard download’s tracks “gristle dog corr” or “fire this ground” then you’ve heard part of the jam session.
