I haven’t watched on a regular basis in years. How’s it holding up? Last one I caught was Goth Kids Part 3.
for me personally, south park is a bit “weaker” after season 10~12, generally nowadays i really enjoy three or four episodes from a season, but i still watch it and it’s still good overall. recently played the game (south park: the stick of truth) it was fucking awesome.

Yeah, basically this…I do find that the 2-3 episodes per season that are strong are really strong…but yeah there are def some filler epsiodes these days…still love it,though…
I’ve watched a couple episodes from the last season. The law of diminishing returns seems to be kicking in with the laughs, but when the writers ARE on target, they’re still funnier than anything else on television. Maybe that’s unfair because I watch very little television, but I have a pretty good hunch that there are still more laughs in under a half-hour of South Park than there are in 90 minutes of Saturday Night Live.
I think the show’s at its best when it involves some phenomenon that isn’t a “current issues” kind of thing. My favorite shows are the ones where it’s just the kids getting up to some weird hijinks and it’s not an attempt to see how “shocking, yet insightful” Trey and Matt can be about that week’s hot button topic.
For example, I think Cartman’s ‘chili con carnival’ revenge on Scott Tenorman is one of the best things they’ve ever done, and it doesn’t involve any “issues”-driven humor.

They’ve only made 6 episodes since that one. The best one is “The Hobbit”.

agree. i mean, they alway had the social commentary thing going on, but for last couple of years, it became more and more prominent. i guess even trey and matt noticed this and are fully aware of it, and made sort of a self-parody of the whole thing in the episode called “you’re getting old” (but in the typical south park weird way).

I think their lampooning of celebrities / public figures got a little weaker, too, in recent years - having only a couple primary voice actors limits their ability to really nail their targets, parody-wise. Although not without a few moments where the parody is funny for just how OFF the mark it is.
“You’re Getting Old” was another great example of them just focusing on what’s going on in the kids’ lives and not in pop culture. High marks for the scene with “the president of the United States…is a DUCK?!!” who proceeds to quack out a mouthful of shit.
“Medicinal Fried Chicken” should be mandatory viewing for everyone…
