Few decent songs on their first two albums while the rest is easily forgetable. I can’t even the remember the names of the good ones, but certainly the albums. I definitely liked the one with Sean Lennon, which I want to guess is called “son song”. That was a good one. I tried listening to some of the later stuff, but I got bored. Only so many “nu-metal” bands to fit on my list, and i’m going to keep in that way. Way I figure - i’ve got slayer and nu-ministry on my metal list; fear factory, slipknot, and a couple others on my nu-metal list and so on… No need to add more, heh.
I always thought they were Sepultura for the Korn lovin’ pants-around-yer-ankles addidas wearin crowd.

well that’s kinda what max left sepultura to do
Good Sepultura ended here:
But the ideas behind Roots were also pretty good… that’s more of a Soulfly album than any actual Soulfly album, when you think about it.
Soulfly = fail
Yeah damn that roots album… if they never put out the chaos BC remix I think the band never would have taken that turn… the little commercial success they got from that song totally went to max’s head. I think…
CHAOS AD is great… Territory and Attitude… I really dig Arise too, the stuff before that is good too, but more generic IMO… (although some good stuff too, like stormtroopers of death etc…)
Chaos BC remix… it wasnt that bad was it? I associate it with MORTAL COMBAT!

no no, it was good don’t get me wrong. I dug it at the time. Haven’t heard it in awhile, but… I just think that after that song got sepultura the exposure that it did and it was a crossover success, as you pointed out getting in movies and shit, that max went after the money. Which i’m sure roadrunner was more than willing to go along with. In this case for roots it was to get Ross Robinson, fresh off his Korn platinum success and the talk of the town, to produce the cd. They tuned down a few notes. went nu-metal. he’s scatting on the cds all of a sudden. Now we’re wearing adidas jumpsuits, blah blah blah marries the manager, wiki for the rest of the story. and the band obviously didn’t see things max’s way and parted. Max starts soulfly. all this coming from the little remix that could. Oh and he got the drummer that did the original remix to be in soulfly.
While i’m in tangent mode, I saw soulfly earlier in their career and they wree booked at the birch hill in NJ. A midsized club. Sold out show. But that morning the drummer (remix guy) quit. And instead of calling the show, max didn’t want to return the money, he calls in people from the area down from other bands, to audition to do a song or two each. plus when things were closer to show time and still not enough time was filled for a semi full set, they went down the now forming line outside for people who played drums. They took everybody who could half keep a beat and off to band practice. long story short. we got a way delayed show of maybe 6 songs that we all heard being rehearsed while waiting to get in, and then that was that. Terrible performance, guy totally just did the money grab instead of calling the show, and The club didn’t refund money since the band technically played. So since this incident i’ve had a little anger towards max.
Yeah thats a bit crap. I would be pretty annoyed after that experience too.
Just delay the show a few days, or come back a month later… it’ll sell out again.
WDYT of Cavalera Conspiricy, did you check them out? I dug it, hardly groundbreaking, but more old skool sepul than soulfly… suppose thats due to Igor or whatever his name is.
IS sepultura still even going? I didn’t mind the Nation album with Derek, but since igor has left as well, it’s just the guitarist/bassist left as original members right?
Well I suppose Tony Iommi kept Sabbath going all this time with/without Geezer/Ozzy/Bill at various times.
Change of topic to Sabbath - I heard Ozzy is suing Iommi over him using the Sabbath name all these years? Geez Ozzy does Sharon really need another house, or diamond encrusted toilet seat that bad.
yeah sepultura is still going… somehow… without max or igor.
CC was alright. Too little too late though for me, but the time I actually DID listen to it I listened to the whole thing.
I was more excited when I heard about that project with necro and igor
I have heard good things about necro but never listened to it myself. Hip hop right?
I know he got into some trouble when he was here last, he had to cancel a show because he was being “held by police for questioning” lol… I never heard the follow up so I don’t know what for.

R.I.P.
Chaos BC actually came out after Roots. I enjoyed Roots, but everybody went nuts after it. Roadrunner went on a Nu Metal Binge right after that. Coal Chamber, Spineshank, etc all followed.
Roots Came out in May of 96
Mortal Kombat in November of 96.
Either way, Max bought the Nu Metal Vibe Hook, line and sinker.
