Has anyone seen this series on HBO yet?..directed by Dave Grohl…each week a different cities music scene is focused on…the first episode was in Chicago…Ministry is mentioned briefly…Steve Albini is a big part of the episode…they go to Wax Trax and do a short bit on it…Cheap Trick,Naked Raygun,Buddy Guy etc…it was really well done…I would recommend it…next week is Washington DC,so I’m sure we will see Ian Mackaye,Bad Brains and the Go-Go scene etc…
I hated it.
Not trying to be “confrontational” or anything but all I got from it as a whole was that it was nothing more than a big “group hug” for people who grew up in the early 80’s listening to hardcore.
Bits and pieces were interesting but all in all I found it to be somewhat on the nose.
Too cosy and cuddly for my liking. Grohl’s voice over stuff at the end made it seem like an episode of the Wonder Years.
Made me cringe.
Sorry.
Yeah,I understand that part of it but I enjoyed the rare footage…I’m a sucker for that shit…I didn’t get to caught up in the Dave Grohl,Foo Fighters aspect…I love Big Black,Wax Trax,Buddy Guy and Cheap Trick so it was fun for me to see that stuff get some exposure on a big network like HBO…I’ll continue watching it for sure…
Another lame as all hell episode of Sonic Highways over the weekend. This time Dave and his merry bunch of perennially grinning co-horts tackle the DC scene. They may as well have tackled trout fishing in the northern provinces for how clumsily they handled the whole shebang. Just another big goofy, gooey eyed, back slapping alterna-love in. And some interviews with Ian MacKaye - who, it must be noted, has all the charisma of a car tyre salesman.
“Hello everybody, I shun capitalism and have an incredible work ethic to boot, hooray for me!”
Also, I have figured out that if i was forced to share a room with Dave Grohl I would last approximately 8 hours 46 minutes before I gave in and beat him unconscious with a shoe horn.
Hopefully one day he is captured by Pakistani extremists or is carried off by wild geese.
Either way, one can only hope.

I’m sure you will keep hate watching it though…I didn’t find as much displeasure in it…plus I’m a huge Bad Brains fan and it was good to hear Dr.Know talk a bit…

He’s from DC. Hence, the Ian interviews. I’d rather him being on top as opposed to Bono, though.
