Saw the Fall last night and they absolutely wiped the floor. The band were just simply incredible…an amazing & glorious train wreck of raw and tight as hell rock’n’roll in it’s pure form.
This gig was special though as Mark E Smith gave us about two or three songs before pissing off backstage and leaving the band to devastate Edinburgh with a blistering performance.
Towards the end of the set there was still no sign of Mark E Smith and the hard-core Fall fans were starting to get furious…boos and plastic cups rained down upon the stage when all off a sudden something awesome happened…some random dude jumped up on the stage, grabbed the mic and became Mark E Smith. The random dude was obviously a veteran Fall fan as he NAILED the song and worked the stage beautifully…the crowd went wild.
As a result of some random guy blowing shit up Mark E Smith had to come back out and reclaim the Fall as his with a finale of Mr Pharmacist.
After the gig I realised the Fall were basically Beatles, Monks, Monkees, Cream, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Black Sabbath, Melvins, Godflesh, William Burroughs, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Robert Johnson, James Brown and the ghost of a thousand other lunatics thrown into a blender…the resulting oooze is most definatetly the Fall
Below is the video I took of the random Fall fan taking over vocal duties…the audio is horrible but his performance really makes up for it hahaha
