Something Special Happened At The Fall's Edinburgh Gig Last Night...

Saw the Fall last night and they absolutely wiped the floor. The band were just simply incredible…an amazing & glorious train wreck of raw and tight as hell rock’n’roll in it’s pure form.

This gig was special though as Mark E Smith gave us about two or three songs before pissing off backstage and leaving the band to devastate Edinburgh with a blistering performance.

Towards the end of the set there was still no sign of Mark E Smith and the hard-core Fall fans were starting to get furious…boos and plastic cups rained down upon the stage when all off a sudden something awesome happened…some random dude jumped up on the stage, grabbed the mic and became Mark E Smith. The random dude was obviously a veteran Fall fan as he NAILED the song and worked the stage beautifully…the crowd went wild.

As a result of some random guy blowing shit up Mark E Smith had to come back out and reclaim the Fall as his with a finale of Mr Pharmacist.

After the gig I realised the Fall were basically Beatles, Monks, Monkees, Cream, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Black Sabbath, Melvins, Godflesh, William Burroughs, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Robert Johnson, James Brown and the ghost of a thousand other lunatics thrown into a blender…the resulting oooze is most definatetly the Fall

Below is the video I took of the random Fall fan taking over vocal duties…the audio is horrible but his performance really makes up for it hahaha

Here’s a few other Fall classics to give you an idea of the awesome-ness…

This dude was the opener…he was from Glasgow and he did an amazing accoustic cover of the Cypress Hill classic “Hits From The Bong”

Here’s a better video and sound of the dude’s one-man mutiny — also some clues as to who the guy is.

That’s a brlliant vid! Thanks a bunch for digging that up Pinz!!!

My ears are still ringing from that gig…it was a hum-dinga.

I think Mark E. Smith is probably brain damaged. Not joking.

Here was what happened just before the hijack…

The Fall have a new record dropping in a few weeks and as usual it sounds killer…

The Fall – Ersatz G.B.
Review by Simon Fielding.

Published 27 October 2011

"Having created two essential Fall albums in recent times (last year’s Your Future Our Clutter and 2008’s Imperial Wax Solvent), Mark E Smith’s current line-up looks set to challenge the achievement of the band that made seminal 1985 LP This Nation’s Saving Grace. There’s nothing quite as stirring as last year’s Bury Pts.1+3 here, but Nate Will Not Return and Taking Off offer up a similar cocktail of half-rhymes, free associations and propulsive bass-lines.

Greenway, the most peculiar piece on the album, employs severe, Slayer-like riffs and a fragmentary tale of Danish TV and cats to striking effect. Eleni Poulou coaxes a slender performance from the rhythm section to cushion her lead vocals on Happi Song – a well-placed counter to the multi-layered drums and verbal repetitions of I’ve Seen Them Come and Age of Chang. Make no mistake, Ersatz G.B. is yet another inventive addition to the Fall canon."

Here’s an article/interview with Mark E Smith from a few days back…the guy is a scoundrel but brain damaged he ain’t.

Well. I’m sold.

That sentence made my ears prick up too haha…I was very sad when they didn’t have the new album at the merch table…I know it doesn’t come out for two weeks…BUT…when bands tour an album they tend to sell it too!

Your Future, Our Clutter was genius.

Best Fall album since Country On The Click.

The new one sounds like it will destroy!

I’m in two minds about it. While the fan getting up and taking over was bloody awesome, especially with the band deciding to play on and no security trying to stop him, I’m also thinking that Mark E Smith is a complete and utter prat for abandoning the set two or three songs in.

I don’t know much about The Fall or Mark E. Smith. But, yeah, I agree with the above.

Pretty funny that he came back out only after being showed up by some schlub (who was probably outshining him).

Mark is a fucking dickhead, but an entertaining one. Really disrespectful thing he did. I hope this dude starts a band called The New Fall or something and fuck with him.

Personally, I think he sounded better. Guessing Marky Mark didn’t like it, and decided to take his show back. Should’ve let the guy stay on.

^
Yeah, that’s what it looked like to me. After Marky’s primadonna departure some schlub manned up and did the job that Marky walked out on.

When Marky heard that new-dude was being better at being him than he was, he got pissy and went back out.

What a douche.

To be honest Mark leaving the show didn’t bother me at all…the band were just blistering and to be honest when I go to rock’n’roll shows I sure as hell don’t go to listen to some guy sing. And anyway Mark E Smith isn’t exactly Marvin Gay on the old vocals haha

Elena Poulou started singing on the songs after Mark split but the band were so brutal & scorching that her wee vocal was drowned out so she soon gave that up.

I can understand the fundamentalist Fall fan being agitated that Mark E Smith let the band do all the work the other night…but come on…he had sore feet guys give him a break! hahaha

The guy that jumped up and took the mic is called Paul apparently…I suggest when Mark retires Paul takes over and they change the name from The Fall to The Paul.

At the end of the day this show was incredible…if they come your way catch them…don’t expect too much from Mark E Smith though…but throughout the history of Fall it’s always been very clear that the band is what it’s all about…sure Mark E Smith’s barbed diatribes hurled out at us are great…but the band is where it’s at.

The Paul sounded way better than The Fall.

Get a fucking chair is right

He was singing “where was Mark where was Mark!” at the beginning hahaha

Seems Mark is an angel compared to Danzig…

Haaaaaa…Danzig is such a goober. Fucking infantile lameass. Hope he gets hit again. Too bad the guys in MCD didn’t kick his ass - a far, superior group to Danzig imo:

Just CTRL+F “Danzig” and you’ll find it. Funny stuff.

talk about a bitter fuck. GI is and was, and forever will be an OK band that was surrounded by classic bands.

danzig is a goofball and a silly man, but holy hell, Misfits, Samhain, the first 4 (and the last one and a half) Danzig albums are fucking stellar.

Yeah. I know. I say what I say, but still has a fan of Glenn circa 1980 - 1994.
