Apart from this new NIN release that everyone seems so fiddle-di-dee over, who else is putting out a new album this year? Haven’t really heard much in the way of news on the local grapevine. Nothing of interest anyway.
Supposedly there are new albums by Tool, Messuggah, Fantomas, Beck, Autechre, Lightning Bolt, Liars, Slayer and Killing Joke. The Fantomas album is a definite (it’s called Suspended Animation and has already hit soulseek) as has the new Beck album. Autechre’s newie is called ‘Untilted’ and is out in April. Which is good. But the details concerning the other releases I have mentioned are sketchy at best. Anyone have any more concrete news regarding this?
Or are there any other bands putting out something in '05 that I have forgotten or am unaware of??
Jesu put out an album. It’s ex-Godflesh, JK Broadrick. KMFDM if your into them is supposed to have a new album come fall, title at the moment is FUBAR. Alec Empire is supposed to be releasing a new solo album called Futurist in April I think.
Foetus is supposed to have some new stuff out this year as well.
yeah, its called “Love” and its very, very different from “Flow”. Without a doubt his mostly thematically and musically linked album since “Nail”. Good stuff.
New Nephilim (as in Carl McCoy) album is supposed to be released in May. I have my doubts as to whether this will actually happen but if it does, that would be awesome!
Billy Idol. Oh yeah. Billy Idol. With a Rebel Yell reserve your copy today at finer record stores everywhere, release date is March 22nd. Dye your hair platnium blonde and get out your torn jeans. Its time to fist pump and party likes its 1985.

The Fantomas album has indeed hit SLSK. A few of my friends on there already have it. They haven’t had much to say about it though. Tool’s new album is definately coming out this year. All they are waiting on is for Maynard to lay down the vocals and to do the final mixing and press stuff. I would assume late summer/early fall release on that. Don’t know much about any of the other bands you mentioned except for Meshuggah. Their new album is called Catch 33 and is in the final mixing as we speak. It is supposedly to be released in N. America around May 3rd or so. I’m waiting very eagerly for that one since they have never let me down in the music they make. As far as other things, someone already mentioned Jesu, which if you haven’t heard it yet it is by far the best thing JKB has done in years. Very worth the wait and pick up. If you like this sort of thing the new System of a Down double album is due to put out the first half within the next month or two and they will be releasing the other half of it in early Fall. I’ve heard a few tracks off of it and it seems like standard SOAD, which is good and zany but a bit odd. Not sure when the new Slayer is due but I do know they are in the studio and laying down some of the material already. I’ll try and let all of you know if there is any other stuff of any kind of importance that I stumble across.
Current 93 will have a new one this year, if they can ever get enough money to finish it. Should be they’re most ambitious work since “All the Pretty Little Horses”.
Also I’m hoping Rick Rubin will get around to releasing the last of Johnny Cash’s American recordings.
Just found out that the new Tool is out in August. A long wait I know but most likely worth it. I’m only a recent convert to Tool. Used to hate them. Until one day I thought I’d take a punt on Lateralus, as I’d been getting into a lot of prog rock at the time. I’d heard the album before but disliked it immediately. But when I actually sat down and listened to it…it totally won me over. In fact it’s now in my top twenty albums of all time.So intricate, dense and layered. It totally destroys Aenima (which is still a half decent album) production wise. The drumming is the best I have ever heard. Not to mention the lyrics!!! Deep.
So yeah, I’m pretty stoked about the whole thing. apparently this new one is much heavier than the last. Also Maynard has been investing in some hi tech digital effects units and state of the art moog synths, so I’m guessing it will be alot weirder and spacier. I’m told that his voice is electronically distorted on several tracks. Bring it on now!
New Fantomas is basically reworked versions of Warner Bros cartoon themes. Fucked up nursery rhymes and the like. Have heard mixed reviews on it. But I’m still salivating over what Mike and the gang has in store for us.
There is also a new Lightning Bolt album due out in July, along with a new Liars album.
And yeah, I have the new Jesu album. It is everything I’d hoped for and more - epic, monolithic, sad, beautiful and dense as hell. Only problem is that now we’ll probably have to wait two or three years for another.
It will also be self titled, as the band were so disappointed with their last offering and have vowed never to speak to David Grohl ever again.
What? Where’d ya hear that? If they were so disappointed with that album, I doubt they would have performed any of the songs at the recent 25th anniversary shows.
As for new stuff coming out this year…uh…I’m sure Wolf Eyes will put out some stuff.
Corrosion of Confromity has an album coming out on April 5th. It might be their best album ever!
Tommy Victor is also writing stuff for a new Prong record, which might be out this year. He’s busy right now, though, touring with Danzig. I think a new Prong DVD is available in Europe on Monday, but would cost $46+ to ship to the U.S.

I’m enjoying the new foetus CD. Jim lives in NY so I’m hoping to catch him live soon
well, so far we already got a new Amon Tobin album, General Patton vs. X-Ecutioners, and Jesu. new Fantomas on the way, an interesting project Dave Lambardo, DJ Spooky, Jack Dangers and Chuck D is coming out soon, a new Meat Beat Manifesto album, a Skinny Puppy DVD (they’ve begun work on their next LP as well) , a possible remastered/bonus tracks Doubting Thomas album, from the vault II, and I’m sure there’s other things I’m missing.
new Unsane, Cutthroat 9, Shellac (I hope), Battles (ex-Don Cabalero and ex-Helmet), Don Caballero, Oxbow, Tribes of Neurot, Final (another JK Flesh project)
