Smashing Pumpkins - CYR (new album)

Me and my girl did a review of the new Smashing Pumpkins album CYR! Has anyone been following their new stuff? This album sounds like a modern take on New Order type clean synth pop, it’s very different for them.

Also before anyone asks, it’s 3 of the 4 original band members minus the old bassist D’Arcy Wretzky. She and Corgan don’t get along but Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha are involved.

I bought it. What a waste of money. It’s absolutely terrible. Every song sounds the same, and nothing stands out. Corgan’s reach has always exceeded his grasp, but this is just the sound of a band with no new ideas.

Only heard a handful of songs, the title track was the standout imo. Never been a big Pumpkins fan but this was alright, reminds me a lot of Hesitation marks. Sounds like an album that was about 10 years too late tho sadly. This 80s revival stuff is so 2010’s.

The most compelling stuff coming from Corgan these days is his NWA wrestling venture, there’s some real brand recognition behind those 3 letters and he’s got a real shot at reinventing the wheel and saving us from the shitty comedy sitcom wrestling we get from WWE and AEW lol.

Always been shiitty material /band/just a complete waste of everyones time.
I even refuse to type the name of the “band”.
Such whiny -ass vocals from the getgo.
Timing is the only reason that very 1st album done anything.
And…just so creepy.

I haven’t listened to the album yet, but was listening to some of the singles as released and really like Purple Blood.

You wil probably like the whole album then. It’s pretty stylistically consistent throughout.

Yes timing is the reason they went diamond in their third album…

You are delusional but it’s okay. I’m sure someone out there tolerates your befuddledness.

I agree that it is maybe 10 years too late for the 80s synth revival. Ironically I think if Corgan had gone back to some mean “grunge” roots (I know he loathes that categorization), they’d have been able to capitalize on the 90s revival fad currently happening. Then again I can totally understand why he doesn’t want to be stuck on a loop. When you’ve made genre and era-defining albums, it must be frustrating for everyone to hold what you do up to this golden nostalgia standard if you don’t want to repeat yourself.

Whiners unite!!!..!

You are absolutely stupid…wow!

He is delusional because he doesn’t like this shitty band or because he doesn’t agree with your opinion about them? …I always hated this band too and Corgans vocals are the ultimate cringe vocals…the only thing I care about less than listening to them is listening to someone else make a video talking about them…and “befuddleness” isn’t a word…there is “befuddled” and “befuddlement” but no “befuddleness”…

The delusion is when you think a band that has a DIAMOND doubled album which spawned some of the most memorable hits of the 90s was just “in the right place at the right time”. I repeat. DIAMOND ALBUM. aka whether you like it or not this is amazing songwriting.
Not to mention plenty of other successful albums, etc.
I get not liking his voice and all that but there is a line where you’re just being an idiot.

Also this is not some ghostwriter Aerosmith situation. They wrote literally every note themselves and stayed Alternative throughout their career.

You are actually measuring good songwriting by how many albums a band sold? Wow…the most disposable shit music of the world has been some of the highest selling…just shows the stupidity of the general public…N’Sync went diamond too…did they write some of the most “memorable” and “amazing” hits of the 90s? Methinks not…so if you think N’Sync is awful even though they went diamond you are just being an idiot? C’mon man…Nickleback,Creed and Matchbox 20 also went diamond lol…

I thought people were done with Corgan after his trans trashing.
And who cares what voidhead has to say…

I’ve noticed that haha. I think it’s mostly a fashion statement tho? I don’t think those kids could care less if grunge music came back, most of the album sales would be coming from people who are already into that stuff like your Gen-X’ers and maybe some older Millennials

Yeah it’s mostly the look. The kids don’t understand the sound. All the music is so polished and by the grid for decades now that even what passes for rock is very digital. Miley Cyrus (who I actually like a lot) and Machine Gun Kelley were just crownd “King and Queen” of rock by Forbes Magazine. “Rock n roll” is coming back I think, but in a very neutered form. Ah well, it is what it is! I’m sure to oldschool rockers Grunge was a crock of shit anyway :joy:

You couldn’t be more right. Eddie Bauer is selling an $85 Dollar “Sub Pop” Flannel

Link? I have to see that.

Also, Eddie Bauer still exists?

I don’t like the Smashing Pumpkins either except 2 Maybe 3 songs but yeah, corgan’s vocals aren’t really my thing and I think his actual music is pretty generic… and to top it off he just seems like a dick and then the feud between him and his original bassist kinda confirmed it.

But I don’t mind Voidy’s revues. He puts the title in the subject so it’s not like it’s a surprise what he’s doing in these threads. Do your thing voidy.

So, My 2-3 songs by the Pumpkins- Tonight Tonight Great fucking song and easily his best, then a far distant 2nd is Bullet with Butterfly Wings. and then maybe 3rd would probably be Disarm… and I would include 1979 on the list but I just really don’t like it but it should get a mention for creating an atmosphere. The feeling of that song is unmistakable but I think that has more to do with the bass line than any lyrics vocals or guitars.

just google it… I tried to link it but the link was too long…
