At work we moved into a new office here in Chicago. We recently hired some people to help finish setting it up (painting, construction, etc, etc).
Came back from lunch today and was walking towards the office where I see Darrell James outside, trying to get in. Turns out he was hired by my boss to finish painting the place. We obviously talked for a while. He’s finishing up his record and will then go on tour in the Fall.
wow. first of all… respect. the man is working hard to do what he needs to.
with that being said…
i hope this is a huge “wake up” for those of you who think that it’s “cush” getting a “deal” in the music industry - its not. its a mother fucker. the guy we are waiting for an album release from, and the guy who toured with ministry last year (or 2 ago) … IS PAINTING TO GET BY. and that’s cool, but fuck that’s the biz…
that’s why i got out. i pussied out and couldn’t hack it, my car had 176,000 miles on it, and the studio owner i worked for asked me what i “needed” to stay. I said at least 30K. He laughed and I left nashville and went to Atlanta. things are good for me now. the music biz doesn’t take prisoners. respect to the men and women who tough it out.
