ok, I’m… i HAVE not been so much into skinny puppy… but I downloaded alot of their music videos and live shows…
And one show/song realy got to me… Assimilate… I realy like that song alot…
So… I would like some help with some more songs that a SP-rookie would like.
I think “Stairs and Flowers” was always a favorite of mine. I think “Scrapyard” was one of the songs that sold me on them, it was just so amazing to listen to and had a groove which is lost in most electronic music. Some stuff off of the Process is a good starter like “Death” and “Blue Serge”. If I were to make a comprehensive introduction to Skinny Puppy it would look like this:
Convulsion
Dig It
Grave Wisdom
Death
Spasmolyptic
Testure
Inquisition
Smothered Hope (live from AIDY)
Scrapyard
Addiction
Worlock
Tin Omen i
Amnesia
Most of it leans abit towards the later stuff, but thats what has the most appeal and polish. The texture and atmosphere of say Remission is a bit hard to approach from today’s standards.
I’m a pretty big SP fan (if the avatar wasn’t a hint). I recently made a compilation for some friends who wanted to hear more Skinny Puppy (they only had The Process and B-sides Collect). I made them a compilation called “Classic Collection”, which is more-or-less a singles comp, but nonetheless a good introduction CD:
Smothered Hope
Assimilate
The Choke
Dig It
Addiction
Deep Down Trauma Hounds
Dogshit
VX Gas Attack
Testure
Rodent
Worlock
Tin Omen
Tormentor
Inquisition
Death

My top 3 SP albums (in no order) are ViviSect VI, Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate, and Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse. The album I listen to least is Last Rights (good album, just not my personal favorite of theirs). If you like Assimilate, you’ll surely like all of Bites and Remission. I like it all, even The Process. I think their best material came out between 86-88. I know a lot of SP fans who think Too Dark Park is their best album. There’s probably no clear-cut “best” album by them; it all depends on the listener really.
they all pretty much covered things by now. i’m a huge SP fan as well and all of their albums hold a place in my heart, but for various reasons. you’d defitnltly like the Bites album if you like Assimilate…it’ll be a fun listen once you get into them
You said you liked some stuff off their new album, but most of their material isn’t much like that. If that’s the kind of sound you dig, you might want to check out the Ogre/Mark Walk albums under the name Ohgr. I don’t think it’s as good as “Greater Wrong…”, but it’s in the same vein.
I picked up B&F 6 on this past tour. It’s ok. Only a couple of songs really stuck out. There is one very odd song where Ogre repeats “Mother” through the whole song.
Actually my favorite album by them is Last Rights. I’m not a huge fan of Too Dark Park. Greater Wrong Of The Right was pretty good, even if it was a bit “commercial” for SP.
Love in Vein (available on Last Rights)
Inquisition (available on Last Rights)
Goneja (available on the Greater Wrong of the Right)
Hatekill (available on Back and Forth 6)
Worlock (available on Rabies)
Tin Omen (available on Rabies)
Amnesia (available on The Process)
Process (available on The Process)
Nature’s Revenge (available on Too Dark Park)
Morpheus Laughing (aviable on Too Dark Park)
Smothered Hope (available on Remission)
Testure (available on VivisectVI)
VX Gas Attack (available on VivisectVI)
Second Tooth (available on Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate)
Addiction (available on Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate)
Chainsaw (available on Mind: the Perpetual Intercourse)
I’m tempted to purchase it…is it worth it?
And if so…would getting it off the Subconscious website be the best bet?

It is definitely worth it. My personal favourite of the Back & Forth series as it has a good range of material and some real gems. Subcon is pretty much the only place it can be purchased, AFAIK.
