Also, what’s the skinny on Mark Walk’s absence on stage? He’s such a huge part of their sound now that it’s almost bizarre he wouldn’t join the live show.
Guess he’s more studio producer musician than stage musician. Dave Ogilvie didn’t appear live with them either and he was actually credited as a full member on a couple of albums too.
what’s the deal with HOB anyways? i have a hard time enjoying myself as much when i’m forced into this place. do they offer a better deal on profits or some shit? do they have better in house equipment? what’s the deal? why does it happen?
in chicago, i would much rather see ANYONE play the vic, metro, etc…
Just listen to ‘Too Dark Park’, ‘Last Rights’, then ‘The Process’. Judging from my perception of your tastes, I think those are the ones for you. They are the most experimental and abrasive, and the least dance-oriented.
I have heard all of those albums. And I like ‘dance’. One of my fave albums ever is ‘Controversy’ by Prince.
As a TG fan, you should check out ‘Puppy Gristle’. It is Skinny Puppy at their most experimental with Genesis P. Orridge doing an industrial jam.
Downloaded it once before. It’s ok. Nothing special.
Their new material is a mixed bag, as a lot of the worst qualities of Ogre’s side project OHGR tend to carry over into it. ‘Greater Wrong of the Right’ is a really strong album, but has a bit too much electronica in the sound, which is ironic because Dwayne was supposedly the one pushing for that direction the most before his overdose.
‘Greater Wrong…’ is the only Skinny Puppy album I own.
Let me guess, the thing you dislike most are Ogre’s uber goth vocal stylings?
Well Peligro, if you’ve listened to those albums and still aren’t into Skinny Puppy, I really don’t know what to say. Those are my favorites and they are the most dark and experimental. ’
Judging by the fact we both think Wolf Eyes ‘Burned Mind’ was one of the best records of this decade, I assumed you would like those albums. They are similarly claustrophobic, intense and atmospheric.
(Though obviously Wolf Eyes is far more atonal and Noise-oriented whereas Puppy has much more musicality)
If you don’t like those albums then maybe Puppy is just not for you…
How do you feel about ‘Greater Wrong of the Right’?

I know a lot of their shows are 16+, with armbands for the older crowd, so maybe the bands see it as an oppurtunity to get the younger side of their fanbases at their shows? The staggering amount of 21+ venues is ironic when you consider how many kids love the bands playing those gigs.
The one by Disneyland isn’t too shabby. The one here never has enough ventilation and always reeks of putrefication. Or fat dude BO.
