SKINNY PUPPY - European Tour Dates

Try the earlier material first - much easier to penetrate.

Bites/Remission should get you going.

Key’s solo work is indeed more favourable.

This times a million. Probably a little too poppy at times, but that’s how I like my Puppy. Little bit country, little bit rock 'n roll.

I really need to try harder to get into Skinny Puppy - get the feeling that there’s something I’m missing out on.

Trouble is, the music is so dense and hard to penetrate.

It’s mood music. Most of it sunk in for me while going to bed.

Too Dark Park and Last Rights have been the beginner for many, and it’s not that hard to get into. But they really are angry albums.[/reply]

I started with Rabies. Mostly because I found out Jourgensen was heavily involved on that album. Its a bit heavier than most of what they put out but its still one of my fav albums. Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse is another classic by them[/reply]

i started with rabies as well

who can deny Tin Omen?! NO ONE!!! i wish i could sample that fast chaotic part and loop it for 10mins lol.

My first pickup was a Used Cleanse, Fold, Manipulate cassette. This album does not get enough love from the Puppy crowd. It is their darkest album and has a neat lil’ cyclical aspect to it.

Started with The Process. Then Too Dark Park. Then jumped down and picked up Remission and the other early ones in one swoop. Remission = FTW.

Crazy start you had there Piko. I still dont own every SP album. Used to have em burned but I lost a bunch of my cds recently

Yeah. Although I REALLY started with ohgr. Sunnypsyop was just about to come out, and I remembered ogre’s work on some of the KMFDM albums and liked it. Had always heard of Skinny Puppy, but never knew Ogre was the singer. Been hooked ever since. Process was the first waved in my face, so I bought it…for cheap.

First one was Bites. Loved it, still one of my favorite discs ever. “Last Call,” “The Centre Bullet,” and “One Day” are the best of the bunch.

Too Dark Park and Cleanse, Fold, Manipulate were next. Didn’t like these too much for the LONGEST time, and now they’re A-OK.

GWOTR was on HEAVY rotation after that. Good record. I think I’mma spin it now.

I REALLY like Remission too damn much. “Solvent” was my theme song today.

Rabies is funfunFUN.

Bought Mythmaker not too long after it came out. Wasn’t a fan. Gave it to a friend. MAYBE like two good tracks on the damned thing.

I’ve listened to bits and pieces of other discs, but haven’t really snagged 'em. Never got into VivisectVI; then again, I only listened to it once. STILL haven’t listened to Last Rights or The Process. I’ll get around to it. Eventually.

Bites > Gub > Eyes of Stanley Pain > Everything else SP-related.

Really surprised you like GWOTR as much as you do, Peligro. Doesn’t seem… YOU enough, if that makes sense. Not to cast you as the token “If it has melody, it’s infantile garbage” guy here, but DAMN.

[:)]

I’ll get around to seein’ these guys. Maybe.

i know it’s an unpopular choice, but my favourite album by SP is ‘the process’. it just works for me more than any of the other albums, which i also love… depending on mood, that is. some of it i find totally unlistenable if i’m not in the right mood for it. my first SP was actually ‘aint it dead yet’.

You are not alone in this opinion.

The Process gets plenty of repeat spins from me. I like it far more than Last Rights or Too Dark Park which seem to overshadow it. Maybe it’s because it has something of a ‘rock’ feel to it. I’m not sure. I really like Candle, Jahya, Process and (of course) the almighty Blue Serge.

I remember it getting horrible reviews when it came out. Even magazines that had been favourable to Skinny Puppy turned against it. A shame really.

Also agree with whoever gave the thumbs up to Cleanse, Fold… - that album is my favourite Skinny Puppy and one of my favourite industrial albums overall.

Rabies is probably the best starter for Ministry fans, obviously.
Though I’d also recommend Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate for beginners or The Greater Wrong of the Right if you’re more into dance/pop music.

I agree with the RABIES guys. Start there 1002.

the process is definitely a classic. a unique album in the SP catalog. GWOTR and mythmaker are both…lacking the SP feel/sound IMO. analog ftw. and ohgr rapping? no thank you.

Rabies was crap imo… though Rodent is great track. I dont like the style in which he sings on most of Rabies.

VivisectVI is probably my fav Puppy release, followed by Too Dark Park and Perpetual Intercourse.

Thumbs up to all Process lovers. Greater Wrong was Greater Crap

I’m a little mixed about Cleanse and Rabies. Rabies just doesn’t feel like a puppy album at all. Feels like a mix of ministry and something else. Just not sure what that something else is. Some good songs there though, but some feel like filler, and most don’t feel like puppy. Cleanse was just a weird bridge for me from Mind to VivisectVI (which I love). I’m been a little harsh though and haven’t really given it a full chance.

Last two puppy albums are eh… Some good songs there, but as wholes, no. Mythmaker is garbage just about.

Oh, and funny little side-fact. When I played world of warcraft, my worlock (no pun intended) was named Jahya. Couldn’t thnk of anything else, heh.

Mythmaker songs are better live. Ugli and PedaFly were fucking amazing songs to see. Ugli as an album closer is rather awkward considering the live show was my first listen of Mythmaker songs and Ugli was the second song. Heres the set list from 2007:

Anger
Ugli
Dogshit
Tormentor
Politikil
Rodent
Pedafly
Worlock
I’mmortal
Dig It
Amnesia
Cellar Heat
Hardset Head
Fascist Jock Itch
Haze

Encore
Social Deception
Testure

Second Encore
Far Too Frail
Blue Serge
