SkareKrau Radio / APOP Records

Just a shout out to some peeps that have been rockin’ my head lately.

Skarekrau Radio is without a doubt, the most bizarre band I have ever seen. They’ve been around forever and are the granddaddies of noise in St. Louis. I recently got their new movie “A Time In Tempora” which is two dvds and one cd of utter insanity for a mere fifteen bucks. Well worth it.

Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FYl2q3wIBE&NR=1

And here is their website, which is chock full of all kinds of nutty. http://skarekrauradio.bizland.com/

See, they’re not actually a band, they are a cult, the Tempora Kuu Sect. The website reads like an alien Dr. Bronner’s bottle.

You can get their stuff from Apop Records, which is a noise label, an underground music venue, and the fucking best record store I have ever been to, hands down. I walked in the store the first time and recognized maaaaaybe 1 cd out of 20 on the shelves. Really obscure shit turns me on, and that is their specialty. I generally go in to get something I know I want (the new Swans vinyl, say, or the Jesus Lizard reissues, or the Legendary Pink Dots box set I swear I’m gonna get one of these days- shit that’s not really that underground but no other store in the area would carry) and end up walking out with an armful of random 3" cds, cassettes, etc. in handmade packaging from all over the world with no clue at all what’s on 'em. Total crap shoot, but worth it 'cause everything’s so cheap. LOVE LOVE LOVE that place.

Be sure to check out their mailorder, everything in the store is available to ship. Subscribe to their email list, and you’ll get in depth reviews of all the new releases of batshit-crazy bands from Latvia you’ve never heard of and reissues of 40 year old synthesizer jazz disco remixes kiddy porn soundtracks. I’m making that part up, but that’s not an altogether unusual string of descriptors, seriously. If you like weird, this is your one stop shop.
