What a rotten vacation. I come down with the flu and then the furnace decides to conk out. I’ve been without heat since Monday morning. It’s in the mid 30’s all weak and that’s the high temps. At night it’s been getting into the low 20’s or worse. Brrr…
It’s a new furnace too. Some kind of pressure switch went kaput. I’m guessing it is the only one of it’s kind in the known universe since no one seems to be able to locate such device.
I knew I should have kept my old furnace, it was old and crappy but it NEVER broke. The new one is overly complicated, variable speed, multistage etc. I’m an engineer and I can tell you, I hate technology because it breaks. Simple things, like my old furnace, work. Complicated things, like the lump in my basement, don’t.
Bah…
I have to chisel the ice forming on the top of my tea.
Sometimes the simplest tech is the best.
I bought a cheap-ass washer/dryer set. I don’t need a bunch of computerized controls. I just need it to wash and dry clothes. All that extra stuff is just more shit that can go wrong.
Yeah, I’m ready to start a camp fire in my living room. Fortunately, there is a bit of sun this morning though it is only about a balmy 25 degrees out. It’s definitely cold inside and out.
Supposedly, the HVAC folks have located the mystery switch and will be here some time this afternoon. We shall see.
Back to chipping giant icicles from my living room ceiling.
Hey, i saw this the other day, a cheap way of heating rooms, it could be handy for you at the moment. I’m gonna try it myself if it gets much colder here.
Fortunately, the HVAC dude just left. I have HEAT again. Wooohooo… Finally. It’s been a long cold 3 days. I was getting concerned about having to find a way to keep the pipes from freezing much less myself and kitty.

My wife showed me that video last week. We are a little bit sceptical but we will give it a try. I’ll tell you how it worked out. This economical crisis is not very friendly of a warmed cosy house.

Yeah, it certainly isn’t, i’m gonna have to pick up some flower pots soon i think. Hope it works out well for you, looking forward to hearing how it goes for you.

I live on a narrowboat and it’s starting to get really cold now in London. Our heating is through a diesel stove which heats a back boiler (basically a radiator). As it can get a bit expensive, I’ve actually tried this heat thing with the pots, and it does kinda work. The thing is it’s not that great for heating a room from cold, but is alright at maintaining an already warm room. It’s worth a shot, for sure. Also, you can get 8 hour tealights, which is obviously less hassle and will run through the night.
I’d need a fireplace before one could prove of use.
Not sure if you rent a house or are in an apartment but if you own your own home you could have a freestanding stove put in if youve got the space for it. Might run you a bit to install it but your savings will be huge in the long run.
